Xfm Exculsive: New Suede Album News
Xfm's Christian O’Connell has been talking to producer
Stephen Street about working on the brand new Suede album.
Street, a veteran music producer has previously worked on
classic albums by The Smiths, Blur and The Webb Brothers
(and slightly less than classic records by Sleeper and The
Cranberries) revealed this morning that their as-yet-untitled
fifth studio album is nearing completion.
“We're just finishing it off this week,” he explained,
“I'm really pleased to be involved with it, I've always been
a fan. I think this is a really good collection of songs that
we're working on at the moment. I'm really excited and the band
are really buzzing.”
According to Street the new record also seems to be a return to
the more basic sound of their older material and a move away
from the more experimental style of their previous record,
1999's Head Music.
“I think its more song based than the last album. On that they
were playing with programming drum and stuff and trying to go
down different avenues, but I think this is a return to real
classic song construction.”
“The band are playing really well, Alex Lee has joined them
[the former Strangelove member replaced keyboardist Neil Codling
last year] and he's a fantastic musician. It's really shaped up.”
So far, the only public airing of any new material has been a
work-in-progress version of a song called Positivity that was
hidden in a ‘secret’section of their Lost In TV greatest hits
DVD that was released earlier this year.
Street was quoted as saying the new record should be expected to
be in the shops sometime during “Late Summer”
