Though The Jam were apparently born from the one-dimensional anger of punk,
the style and determined individuality of guitarist and lead singer Paul Weller
always set them aside from the movement - and the new wave of the late 70s.
By the time of their dramatic finale in 1982 they had attracted the most
devoted fan base in the country through the raw excitement of their performances
and the consistent quality of quintessentially English songs imbued with the
vanity and integrity of the working-class mod ethic.
The Jam 是七○年代後期到八○年代初在龐克和所謂 New Wave 音樂風潮之下的產物。
儘管如此，具有強烈個人風格的主唱吉他手兼創作主腦 Paul Weller 卻總是把 The Jam
帶入不同於整個風潮的道路上。在他們'82 年突然的解散之前，The Jam 早就透過
現場演唱的原始能量和不斷的英國味好歌，在本土吸引了一群死忠的歌迷。
The Jam 的歌曲常融入勞工階級(working-class)與所謂摩登派(Mod)的榮辱和價值觀。
補充上我以前 po 過的一段關於 The Jam & Mod:
註三: "the Jam"是Paul Weller在七O年代mod風潮下所組的樂團;
"mod"是"modernist"的簡稱,特別指六七O年代的年輕人,
因為受到二次大戰反戰風潮的影響,主張一切"返璞歸真",
表現在穿著和生活模式上,就產生風行一時的小綿羊機車,
三排扣西裝,平底皮鞋,及很多非常"俗"但很可愛的髮型,
代表人物: the Beatles, the Jam, the Who...
