Since his album's full of love songs, we quizzed Graham quickly on the ways of love. TOTP: Do you get declarations of love from fans at your gigs? Graham: Yeah. TOTP: How do you cope with them? Graham: Well, I just...I guess I'm realistic about it and I just tell myself that they don't really mean it. They're just saying it in the heat of the mo- ment. TOTP: Does it spur you on, though? Graham: No, no, not really. It makes me feel sort of quite happy really, I suppose. Even if I do think that they don't really know what they're saying. Because obviously they don't know me, do they? TOTP: If you're watching a romantic film, do you prefer a happy ending or a realistic ending? Graham: Happy. Well, a bit of both, really. Because I'm a bit of a romantic, a realistic ending would be a happy one. A romantic sort of one, yeah, like Breakfast at Tiffany's has its happy ending doesn't it? TOTP: What's the best romantic gift you've ever had, or could ever be given? Graham: [long pause] I don't know really. A ring? An engagement ring? I don't know! A wife? [Chuckles.] TOTP: If you could have your pick of anyone to play your love interest in a video, who would it be? Graham: [amused] Love interest? Oh, who do I like? Well, I always...my default setting on that has always been Shannyn Sossamon [of A Knight's Tale] for a while, but I don't know really. She's a nice-looking girl, isn't she? TOTP: What are your top tips on how to create a romantic mood? Graham: I don't know...Chopin. Yeah, Chopin, probably. TOTP: What, in your opinion, is the greatest love song ever written? Graham: [long pause] I don't know, I can't think of any. TOTP: We can move on. Have you ever been serenaded? Graham: No. TOTP: If you could be, would you prefer one of your songs or someone else's? Graham: [suddenly coming up with an answer] The best love song ever written is 'If You Go Away', I should imagine, by Jacques Brel. Done very nicely by Scott Walker. Um, serenaded? I don't know. Somebody else's song, yeah. TOTP: Is writing a love song a good way of curing a broken heart? Graham: No. No, I don't think songs are cures for anything. I think they're spells, and I think they help. But no. No, they don't cure anything. They just allow you to crystallise a feeling, really. It makes it worse, actually. They make them worse.
