British band Blur are releasing a video for their latest single which shows
how the military has to cope during times of crisis.
The single Out of Time, which is released next month, uses documentary images
shot on a US Navy warship on duty in the Gulf.
The fly-on-the-wall footage features a serving female marine and comes from a
film made for the BBC's Correspondent series, shot last year, exploring the
lives of men and women serving on a warship.
The United Nations' Security Council faces a Monday night deadline to agree a
new resolution demanding Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's immediate disarmament.
If no resolution can be agreed, Britain and the United States are expected to
launch military action against Iraq.
'Tender'
Blur's video director John Hardwick said the song gave a different viewpoint
on military action.
"The video offers an alternative perspective on the individuals who exist at
the sharp end of government policy by portraying the armed forces as being
staffed by people who have the same needs as all others.
"Like the song, the video is a tender piece of work about distance and loss."
The Blur track is their first release for two and a half years and is taken
from the band's forthcoming seventh album Think Tank.
The band's lead singer Damon Albarn has been among the most outspoken stars
criticising the British Government's stance on possible war.
Earlier this year he said: "I don't believe in what Tony Blair is saying any
more because he's not listening to the people who elected him democratically."
