Kelly Rowland confirms collaboration with African artists
Grammy-winning R&B/POP superstar, Kelly Rowland, has signed up to sing on a
single that marks a celebration of the beautiful game with top South African
and African music acts. Her participation in the single, titled 'Everywhere
You Go', was confirmed by AS Entertainment’s Antos Stella.
The former Destiny’s Child singer, known for chart-topping hits such as
'When Loves Takes Over' and 'Daylight', will record the track with South
African artists Jozi; Slikour; Kwesta; and Zuluboy. Also performing on the
recording are Cameroon’s Crotale; Senegal’s Awadi; Ghana’s Samini; Nigeria
’s 2Face; Rola from Lebanon; and Uganda’s Chameleon. Africa Uniting at its
best.
“Kelly Rowland is a hot international artist with crossover appeal spanning
all communities, and we were ecstatic when she jumped at the opportunity to
be part of this powerful anthem,” Stella said.
“With the arrival of Africa’s first 2010 FIFA World Cup, it was important
that we attracted the cream of the continent’s musical talent to collaborate
on this song, as well as a world-famous headline act.”
With a new record label, a hit single and various TV and movie roles, Rowland
is on a path to rival her success as part of the former all-girls group with
whom she rose to fame in the late 1990s. Destiny’s Child sold more than
50-million albums with their hits such as 'Independent Women' and 'Say My
Name' before disbanding in 2006.
Rowland, now 29, has collaborated with rapper, Nelly, on the worldwide number
one hit single 'Dilemma', and released two solo albums namely 'Simply Deep'
and 'Ms. Kelly' prior to her number one hit with David Guetta last year,
which won a 2010 Grammy Award.
Stella would not be drawn on the finer details of 'Everywhere You Go', saying
only that “it is definitely going to hit the back of the net with the
listening public.” The track will be released in April to coincide with the
2010 football tournament.
Kelly is also known for her philanthropic work, raising awareness of causes
such as the 1 Goal (www.join1goal.org) and United Against Malaria initiatives
– both a major focus for her and part inspiration for her collaboration with
African artists.
