Ex Suede plank spanker and guitar guru Bernard Butler has reunited with flamboyant soul diva David McAlmont and completed a new album. The duo last worked together in 1996 and recorded The Sound of McAlmont Butler with Butler handling all the instrumental duties while McAlmont learnt his trademark histrionic croon. The album was released to great critical praise and produced the hits Yes and You Do. But within a year the pair had spilt amongst great public acrimony. With Butler's famously demanding studio regime being touted as the cause (a factor that allegedly played a part in his departure from Suede). Since then Butler went on to work with artists as diverse as Bryan Ferry, Edwyn Collins, Aimee Mann, Eddie Reader and Neneh Cherry, and was personally asked by Richard Ashcroft to join The Verve after Nick McCabe temporarily left the band in 1997. Instead he recorded two solo albums, Friends and Lovers and People Move On, and the last thing anyone expected was a reunion between him and the outspoken McAlmont. However Xfm can reveal the duo have completed recording a new album, and are in the final mixing stages. Apparently, despite the split, they always wanted to record together again, so they patched up their differences last year and the newly completed record (working title The Sound Of McAlmont & Butler: Vol.2) should be released on EMI within the next few months. While the album contains some tunes similar to the epic Phil Spectorish pop of their previous singles, it’s apparently a more soulful affair, with a spokesman explaining how “David had always wanted to make a soul album.” Butler is once again producing the record himself alongside Ultrasound and Ian Brown studio knob cranker Nick Terry Butler had previously reported on his website, www.mcalmontandbutler.com, “It feels very uplifting, colourful and eclectic. We are both very fond of what we have written this time as an entire record and we're excited by people being able to hear it soon too.” Matt Everitt http://www.xfm.co.uk/webClient?guid=18462&site=xfm -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.123.212.37
