Keep an Eye ON Sweet "13"
Rock fans have been idolizing rock bands throughout the history of rock & roll.
It doesn't matter if you are fans of Western bands like the Beatles, Police,
Oasis,Blur or Radiohead - these bands have nevertheless deeply itfluenced
the types of music that rock fans listen to.
In recent years,just like in England and the U.S.,bands have become a bigger
and more visible part of the Taiwan pop scne. And now, with arguably
Taiwan's most popular band MayDay off on mandatory military serice, many
groups are jockeying to step into MayDay's shoes.
Out of all the groups waiting in line to be "the next big thing,
" the quartet"13"definitely stands out from the rest of the pack.
Unlike their loud, thundering, head-banging counterparts, "13," which
consists of brother Hsiao Bao (lead vocalist) and Hsiao Yu(guitarist),
Na Niao(bassist) and Chien Yuan(drummer), sings,sweet,mellidluent ongs that
sound like the works of Japanese Shibuy-kei rock icon Hideki Kaji. Now with
the release of their debut album, "13" is going to give music fans everywhere
a whole new listening experience.
The first single off the album is "why?" Originally called "G AM C D,"
the brothes Hsiao Bao and Hsiao Yu said they got the inspiration for
this song from the Hello Kitty mania that some famous fast food chains
toched off in 1999."At that time we were much younger, sowe looked at what
was going on in our society in a more serious fashion, and all the doubts
we had were the reason why there're so many why's in the lyrics." Takes us
into a Harry Potter-like gream world filled with mystery and magic.
In the hearts of these four youngsters in their early twenties, who have
been writing songs ever since they were 17 and 18, the Beatles have always
been Oasis is their most admired person in the whole world. And maybe one
day, like their heroes, synonym for the "beet group in rock history."
