Status of the long awaited album, and a general news roundup
By Hayley Carlin - 15th September 2003
Over the past say six months or so the dedicated fans have been waiting
and waiting and waiting even more, for what was promised, the new Corrs'
album. Following many rumours of the album being due out in spring then
being pushed back to October, the latest news is what the long awaited
album will be out "early next year", so says Jim Corr himself. We hope
it will be well worth the wait!
So, what have the band been doing in the meantime?
They have done quite a few private concerts, including a forty-five minute
set at Dublin's National Concert Hall, for the privileged few attending
the World Association of Newspapers' conference, one mystery gig at Hyde
park, then flying back to Dublin to perform for Nelson Mandela when he
received his Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the National University of
Ireland. Shortly after that they were invited to play for Nelson Mandela
at his 85th birthday. In amongst those private gigs was also a ten minute
slot at the Special Olympics that were held in Dublin's Croke Park in June.
We should also not forget their appearance at the launch of "We Are the
Future" global youth initiative in Rome, Italy.
Andrea has been the most active of the band members, with her movie
being previewed in Cannes in May, and premiered in Toronto in September.
Both film festivals giving the movie positive feedback, the movie which
name had also changed from "The Great Ceili War" to "The Boys from County
Clare". In the beginning of August, Andrea also passed her driving test
first time round, giving her something else to celebrate. So she is finally
being able to drive her sexy little Mercedes around with no L-plates. At
the beginning of September Andrea performed on stage with "The Rolling
Stones" at one of their two concerts at Dublin's The Point, singing the
song "Wild Horses" with front man Mick Jagger, her performance received
mixed reviews from "Stones" fans.
The song "Time Enough for Tears" for the Jim Sheridan movie "In America"
has been completed and the movie is set for release in November. We can
confirm that the song is one of the main songs in the movie but not the
theme, and it's a jazzy number with a Norah Jones feel to it.
Another main event Andrea has taken part in this year would be "The Sheriff
Street After Hours School Education Project". Andrea, along with Gavin
Friday, has been teaching music and other arts to disadvantaged children.
A project on the side of this for Andrea and Gavin has been the "Cow Parade".
Together with the children of Sheriff Street they made a "No Cow" to be
part of the parade. The cow is made up of a variety of symbols which say no
to drink, drugs and violence.
Other "Corrs" news however is minimal, we do know that Jim bought himself a
helicopter and has been learning to fly it. Caroline as we all know had a
baby, Jake who is now 7 months old, so she has been busy with motherhood.
Although just recently it was announced that she was taking part in this
years "Concern Fast", the charity that Andrea supported last year. Also we
are hoping The Corrs performance at Glastonbury 99 will feature on the
upcoming DVD celebrating the best moments in rock and pop history, the past
30 years at Glastonbury Festival. The Corrs will also feature in a new book,
"From the Cradle to the Stage: A Complete History of Irish Music." A book
that will give a big insight into all aspects of Irish music. All proceeds
from the sales of the book will go to the Irish charity "Fighting Blindness".
So that's the latest news "round up", we are looking forward to seeing
Andrea's movie and the release of the new album.
