Time to say goodbye: Sarah Brightman leaves Britain to become US citizen Sarah Brightman, the singer, has bidden a formal goodbye to Britain and become a US citizen. Miss Brightman, 50, who has for several years spent most of her time in her home in Manhattan's Upper East Side made her residence official with the award of her green card on October 21. The singer started her career with Pan's People in the 1960s, recorded the hit duet Time to Say Goodbye with the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and starred in The Phantom of the Opera as Christine Daae, in the part written for her by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who she later married.
