Renee Zellweger has agreed to bid farewell to her svelte figure
in order to reprise her role as chronic singleton Bridget Jones.
The actress has worked hard to regain her slim physique, but
she is to receive ?5 million to make her return as the socially
challenged character, propelling her into the premiere league
of Hollywood actresses, alongside the likes of Julia Roberts and
Nicole Kidman.
She will have to go on a vigorous "anti-fitness regime", cutting
out all exercise and increasing her calorie intake by 1,500 a day,
to put on over 20lbs. Renee will return to her current size over
the course of making the new movie, however, as her character
will dramatically lose weight as part of the story.
Her Bridget Jones co-stars Hugh Grant and Colin Firth are also
returning for the sequel, entitled The Edge Of Reason. In the
new flick Bridget has moved in with barrister Mark Darcy, but
discovers domestic bliss is not so blissful after all. A tough new
storyline sees our heroine dumping her beau, before a series of
mishaps land her in a Thai prison.
Renee's huge pay packet is six times what she earned for the original
film, and this time the actress will also receive a share of the lucrative
DVD and video profits.
