Oasis to get Silver Clef honour
Oasis are to be given a lifetime achievement award at the Silver
Clef music awards in London, its organisers have announced.
Previous winners of the award include Paul Weller and U2.
The winners of seven other awards will also be revealed at a charity
lunch in July at the Park Lane Hilton in London.
The Silver Clef awards are held annually to raise funds for
Nordoff-Robbins, which provides music therapy for adults and children.
Other awards handed out each year include best British band, best
international act and the Icon award, won last year by Rod Stewart.
Bryan Ferry and tenor Andrea Bocelli were also among last year's
winners.
Seventh album
Earlier this year, Oasis were honoured with a Brit Award for outstanding
contribution to music.
The Manchester band shot to fame in 1994 and were at the forefront of the
Britpop scene which saw the return of guitar music to the UK charts.
Be Here Now became the fastest-selling album in chart history when it was
released in 1997.
The band released an 18-track greatest hits album in November, while their
seventh studio album is due out later in the year.
