It features an acoustic performance recorded a t Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993, for the television s eries MTV Unplugged. Nirvana's MTV Unplugged In New York isn't just an exceptional live album, it is the quintessential Nirvana album; one that should be in every fan’s collection. It’s also unique in that it isn’t just a collection of well-known tunes perfo rmed live as it offers a different perspective into a band that was creatively g reater than their acclaimed three-album run, between 1989 and 1993, would sugges t. Nirvana played mainly lesser-known material and covers of songs by the Vaselines , David Bowie, Lead Belly and Meat Puppets. Unlike prior MTV Unplugged performan ces, which were entirely acoustic, Nirvana used electric amplification and guita r effects during the set.
