New Musical Express, 21 September 1991 by Keith Cameron 音樂上來說，Nirvana和Sub Pop以前同公司的Mudhoney有明顯的區隔，粗蠻的六零年代車庫流行(Garage Pop)融合七零年代的龐克和金屬。但在裡面，他們加入了掙揣不快的渾力，不像是Mudhoney一直連篇累幀玩雙關。 Nirvana的音樂，吼鳴裡帶著困在小城鎮的孤獨、對美國主流文化呈膝反射交互影響的噁心，和自身挫敗，同時，他們也寫些波濤洶湧旋律佳的流行歌。膽破心驚與煦色韶光間有極高的平衡。 Smells Like Teen Spirit在寫什麼呢? Kurt: 這是想告訴大家，特別是女孩們，把果肉丟了，嚐嚐那些硬樹皮。有刺青還管它個禮教，看到聽飛鳥樂團和赫曼隱士合唱團的長輩們，把規矩塞回他們的肚子裡!把你自己當成敵人，浸入這個社會體系，緩緩的從裡面敗壞。這是在體制內才能做的工作，就從監護人和啦啦隊長開始。內容很饒口，滿難得出原意的。 "It's about hey brother, especially sister, throw away the fruit and eat all the rind… No longer is it taboo for the tattooed to take their generational solidarity and shove it up the ass of The Byrds and Herman's Hermits-loving disgraces we call parents… Posing as the enemy to infiltrate the mechanics of the system, to slowly start its rot from the inside. It's an inside job, it starts with the custodians and the cheerleaders." 為什麼專輯要取名為Nevermind呢?
