THE COMPLETE DIVA LIST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This comprehensive list tracks the U.S. single and album chart peaks
and Gold and Platinum certifications of four pop "divas": Madonna,
Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Janet Jackson. Singles and albums
are listed chronologically in order of release.
Gold, Platinum, and Diamond certifications are awarded by the
Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Full-length albums
and singles are certified Gold for shipments to U.S. retailers of
500,000 copies and Platinum for shipments of 1,000,000 copies. Each
additional platinum reflects an additional one million copies
shipped.
Albums that have shipped more than 10,000,000 copies are now recognized
by the RIAA as "Diamond" certified. This award was instituted in
March 1999.
Starting December 5, 1998, airplay-only singles were allowed to chart
on the Hot 100. Hot 100 entries after December 1998 that charted
without a commercial single are marked below as "Album Cut." "12"
Vinyl" indicates a commercial single was issued only in that format,
sales of which do not substantially affect chart position.
