Madonna's 'American Life' is on track to debut at #1 in the USA next
week based on first days sales with the major retailers.
Maddie will most likely sell around 200,000 - 250,000 units to achieve
the number 1 spot. That is down by about a third on the sales of this weeks
chart topper. American Idol (Pop Stars) winner Kelly Clarkson did
around 300,000 with 'Thankful' but that is expected to fall off to under
200,000 in the second week
The wildcard could be 50 Cent who is continuing to sell steady numbers and
this week has two albums in the Top 5. The hybrid CD / DVD title
'50 Cent The New Breed' sold about 250,000 this week and landed at #2
while 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin' actually increased sales and sold about
200,000 units.
Madonna could use the Number 1 spot to combat the negative press with her
withdrawn 'American Life' video. A new version of the clip is now
on television and features Madonna standing in front of flags of various
nations but still in an army uniform.
