Mariah Carey's 1993 hit "Hero," covered for charity by the 2008 finalists in
the TV talent series "The X Factor," debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. singles
chart yesterday (Nov. 2), while Pink's "Funhouse" (LaFace/Sony BMG) entered
at the top of the new album survey.
The new version of "Hero," released by Syco Music/Sony BMG, benefits British
servicemen and women injured in the line of duty, and has outdone Carey's
original, which peaked at No. 7 some 15 years ago. It unseated last week's
new entry at the summit, Girls Aloud's "The Promise" (Fascination/Polydor),
which fell to No. 2, as Pink's former No. 1 "So What" dropped another place
to No. 3.
