Jul 22, 01: Update on 30th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Garden
The concert producer announced that Marlon Brando will pay a special tribute
to Michael Jackson at the September 7th "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary
Celebration, The Solo Years" concert to be held in Madison Square Garden.
Jackson and Brando have been long time friends.
Billy Gilman, the 13-year-old county recording artist, has also been
added to the list of artists that will perform at the Madison Square tribute
concerts.Billy will perform "Ben," a song which Michael Jackson recorded in
1972.
"Ben" became a #1 hit for Jackson, was nominated for an Oscar, and received
a Golden Globe Award.
On July 20, it became unclear whether Jermaine Jackson will participate
in the tribute concerts. The concerts producer, David Gest, released a
statement saying that Jermaine Jackson has dropped out of the show, "I am sorry
Jermaine has chosen not to participate in this event. This is an event for
Michael Jackson. It is a salute to a truly great and legendary artist.
Jackie, Tito and Marlon, original members of The Jackson Five, will join
their brother, Michael, onstage for this very special reunion." However,
Danny O'Donovan, Jermaine Jackson's manager, told the media that his client
had not dropped out. There is no split, no division between the brothers,"
O'Donovan said. "Michael is doing his anniversary special, and the brothers
are all going to do it, and I am hopeful as a manager that they are all
going to be there."
Numerous celebrities and artists are have already been scheduled to appear
