German melodic metallers EDGUY will be coming back to North America with
three headlining shows beginning October 10 and eleven shows through October
27 in support of KAMELOT.
EDGUY's dynamic frontman Tobias Sammet checks in from home about the upcoming
trek:
"Why should Hollywood fear us walking its unholy streets? You gotta ask
Hollywood itself and it will tell you! Or better: What's left of Hollywood
after we've played...
"For the EDGUY tour with KAMELOT, we'll mainly focus on older material as the
new album ['Tinnitus Sanctus'] is not gonna be released at that point. People
wanna come out, have fun, and sing along, so we'll focus on our classic
material. Did we choose the set list via democracy or dictatorship? It's kind
of both plus the principle of contingency: Every band member writes down his
own list of songs he wants to play, we put 'em into a voting box, and then I
draw until I got the list I've written. Seriously, it's no big deal.
Sometimes we sit backstage an hour before the show and throw song titles back
and forth to keep it exciting to ourselves. We don't wanna impress people
with complicated or extremely fast stuff… that's childish. We just wanna
make 'em have a good time, so the songs should have maximum impact.
"There are no onstage collaborations with KAMELOT planned so far. I think
both bands do extraordinarily well without the other. Can you imagine having
a maladjusted peacock like me going on with KAMELOT, telling jokes and doing
the splits while Roy tries to enchant the audience? Ladies and gentlemen,
KAMELOT vs. EDGUY is the new Clash of the Titans: Symphony versus Giant
Crotches - ha, ha.
"Clothes are must-haves on my shopping list! I love weird clothes. Hippie
shit, stuff that you don't find at your local H&M. There are some stores in
Hollywood where I'll enter the door being sure that I'll just look around and
walk out having spent twice the advance payment of our next record. And by
the way, we are very brave with our new material. It's a very serious
kick-ass statement and is certainly gonna be one of our most important steps
into the future."
EDGUY will release its new album, "Tinnitus Sanctus", in Europe on November
14 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD, which won't be available in North
America until early 2009, was recorded at Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany
with producer Sascha Paeth.

EDGUY recently shot a video for the song "Ministry Of Saints" in Belgrade,
Serbia.
In a recent interview, EDGUYfrontman Tobias Sammet stated about the group's
new material, "We don't go back to the roots. We never denied who we are and
where we come from, so I don't see a reason to go back to wherever. I go
straight forward and follow my heart as I've always done, 'Tinnitus Sanctus'
is exactly the music we wanna play, we are happy and I don't give a fuck if
it's gonna be our biggest-selling album or not. It's so great, even if my
career would go down the drain and this would be the last album, I'd be more
than happy to be remembered as the guy who recorded 'Tinnitus Sanctus'. I'd
rather ruin my carreer with a creative killer album like that than trying to
play safe with a boring stereotype power metal stinker constructed on a
drawing table. We have a couple of song titles such as 'Dragonfly', 'Dead Or
Rock', 'Wake Up Dreaming Black' or 'Sex Fire Religion'. And we'll shoot a
video for a very heavy midtempo anthem by the name of 'Ministry Of Saints'.
And there'll be a bonus track called 'Aren't You A Little Pervert Too?' which
is quite nasty."
