Boa
Boa is one of the brightest stars that highlighted Korea on the world entertainment stage. They say she's worth more than a hundred billion won in profits a year and we met her for a special date.
2003 was Boa's year, evidenced by her name which graced each big awards event at year's end. And for the second year in a row, she was named Japan's Gold Artist. She is not just a flash in the pan but a real phenomenon,
a star with longevity.
Since her move into Japan's competitive market, her first album sold 1 point 3 million and her second, 1 point 36 million, while her singles sales have given her an impressive 5 million album sales record. Two of her title songs have risen to the number one spot in the Oricon chart.
Boa has been busy going back and forth between Korea and Japan to share her music with her fans. but despite her popularity, she says she wanted to achieve more.
Boa is a favorite among marketers. Recently, she was paid a record sum to appear as a model for a Korean product. It's because her stamp of approval boosts sales. And perhaps it's due to this kind of effect that has universities up in arms to get her to attend.
Her tenth single, out in November, showed off her new sexy, edgier side and moved up to spot number three on the Japanese Oricon chart and has continued its ascendency since.
But she says she's working even harder to bring more to her fans, lending a special twist to her latest work.
She rose to the spotlight in her teens. And she's grown to make an increasingly powerful impressionon her fans, showing off her unique talents.
She's taken the stage hundreds of times but has wowed us with something fresh and special each time.
In 2000, she debuted at the tender age of thirteen. There was some talk of her just being the polished product of an entertainment management company but she's been able to laugh off her critics and has risen to the top.
A pretty look, powerful voice and ability to dance, along with that, a flair for impressing audiences on stage. All these characteristics have made her into a big star.
It took just three years for Boa to rise to the top of the field in Japan. And just how well she'll impress us in the decades to come, we'll have to wait and see.
