SHORTLIST SHORTLIST!
THE WHITE STRIPES, AIR, AT THE DRIVE-IN, GORILLAZ, THE
BETA BAND, PJ HARVEY and RYAN ADAMS are amongst the
artists nominated for the new SHORTLIST MUSIC PRIZE in
the USA.
The prize, modelled on BRITAIN's MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE,
has been set up to honour the most adventurous and
creative albums in contemporary music.
The nominated albums were chosen by a panel of 15
musicians and industry figures, including Beck,
Aimee Mann, Dave Grohl, ?uestlove from the Roots,
Macy Gray, Mos Def, Trent Reznor, Lucinda Williams,
Dan the Automator, Nic Harcourt from renowned LA radio
station KCRW-FM, producers Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot,
At the Drive-In) and Steve Lillywhite, and Urb magazine
editor Raymond Roker.
The panel nominated a list of 49 releases from which
the ten finalists will be chosen. This long list of
nominees includes:

Godspeed You Black Emperor! 'Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven'
Gorillaz 'Gorillaz'
Mystic 'Cuts for Luck & Scars for Free'
PJ Harvey 'Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea'
Roni Size/Reprazent 'In The Mode'
Ryan Adams 'Heartbreaker'
Sigur Ros 'Agaetis Byrjun'
Tortoise 'Standards'
White Stripes 'White Blood Cells'
The list of ten finalists for the Shortlist Prize for
Artistic Achievement in Music will be announced on
October 3. The award will be presented at a special
ceremony and concert event on October 30th in Los
Angeles.
