Blur win Best Live Event at Shockwaves NME Awards
Band honoured for Hyde Park live shows
Blur have won the Best Live Event award at the Shockwaves NME Awards
tonight (February 24) for their 2009 Hyde Park live shows.
The band won the gong for their shows at the London park, which took
place on July 2 and 3 last year.
"Thank you very much indeed for this," drummer Dave Rowntree said as
he, Graham Coxon and Damon Albarn accepted the award.
"Alex [James, bassist] sends apologies, he's out milking wildebeest."
"It's probably the only thing I'll win this year," he added, jokingly
referring to his political career.
"I don't know what to say... we had a nice time," Coxon added.
Jay-Z was nominated for his Alexandra Palace show last year, as were
Muse (for their Teignmouth homecoming gigs),
Oasis (for their Manchester Heaton Park shows)
and The Dead Weather (for their gig at London's Shoreditch Church).
The award was presented by radio DJ Steve Lamacq at the O2 Academy
Brixton in London.
