COXON'S 'TANK' TROUBLE
GRAHAM COXON has announced details of a one-off LONDON performance and
delivered his damning verdict on new BLUR album 'THINK TANK'.
The former Blur guitarist plays the Royal Festival Hall on April 18 as
part of 'Down The Dustpipe', an event curated by former Pavement frontman
Stephen Malkmus. He will play a solo set and also one with his full band.
The gig marks Coxon's first major public performance since leaving Blur
last year. Speaking in an interview with Teletext, Coxon described his
former band's new album 'Think Tank as "underdeveloped and tech-y",
claiming he was "very glad" not to be in Blur after hearing it.
Asked about the band's forthcoming London Astoria dates, as well as their
new line-up, Coxon was similarly unenthusiastic. He admitted: "I'd like
to see if it works. I'll go if I don't have anything I'd rather do instead."
Coxon is only credited with co-writing one song on 'Think Tank', the
closing track 'Battery In Your Leg'. He quit the band last year after
reportedly being uneasy with the band's new direction and the appointment
of Fatboy Slim as producer.
