According to Variety, Al Pacino is in talks to play Dr. Jack Kevorkian in the upcoming HBO telepic, You Don't Know Jack. Upon first reading, it sounds like a bad Frank Caliendo sketch: "You sir, are going to die a pleasurable DEATH!" Just the mention of Kevorkian became a punchline in the '90s. The title shares a name with a goofy trivia game. And Pacino, after a series of critical and box-office bombs, seems to be desperately clanging a quiet bell rather than calmly going to pasture as might be more dignified. Given that he is arguably one of the greatest actors of the 20th century, why would Pacino be considering this project? Well, it does have some merit. First off, HBO's track record is strong over the last decade. Second, Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog, Rain Man) is set to direct. However, the real reason probably lies in the fact that the last successful project he starred in was HBO’s Angels in America miniseries. He’s retracing his steps, searching for where it went wrong. In the past 10 years, Pacino has had more bombs than in his entire career: S1m0ne, Chinese Coffee, People I Know, etc. But it gets really bad after he filmed Angels in America. There’s Gigli, which scores a whooping 6% on RottenTomatoes.com. Two for the Money (21%), Righteous Kill (21%), and 88 Minutes, which scored lower than Gigli (5%). Critics liked him in the remake of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, but no one went to see it. The budget was $30 million and it only made $21 million -- worldwide. His only success is Ocean’s 13, but that’s not his movie; apparently, the former Godfather needs a convoy of Hollywood’s most successful actors to open a flick. It must have been after Angels in America that Pacino was given the "Kiss of Death." EA Video Games approached him about voicing his former character in The Godfather: The Game. Pacino refused, not even allowing his likeness to be used. All of the film's other notable living actors, even an ailing Marlon Brando, recorded audio for the game. One can just imagine the Godfather legacy pissed at Pacino for marring the family. It grabbed his head, fiercely kissed him on the lips and said, "I know it was you Al. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!" Now Pacino is living with the kiss of career death clinging to his goatee. The only way to appease the family is for Pacino’s career to be taken out in a rowboat and shot in the back of the head. Perhaps a film about Dr. Death is just the thing. http://www.askmen.com/daily/austin_300/321_al-pacino-as-dr-kevorkian-his -final-career-suicide.html 短網址:http://0rz.tw/y0led -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 123.195.13.125
