Savage Garden's Darren Hayes Says Solo Proje …

Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes has wrapped up
recording on his solo album, and he recently
presented the nearly-finished product to his
Columbia Records label. Walter Afanasieff, who
produced Savage Garden's 1999 album Affirmation,
also produced Hayes's solo album, while Chris
Lord-Alge, who mixed Savage Garden's 1997 self-
titled debut album, will mix the Hayes solo set
later this month. Lord-Alge's mixing credits
include Hole, Fastball, Green Day, and Orgy, among
many others.
Hayes's official website (darrenhayes.com) is
expected to launch shortly to support the still-
unnamed solo collection.
Hayes told us that his fans can expect a pop album,
but not necessarily one that sounds like Savage
Garden: "Two-thirds of my record is not like anything
you've ever heard Savage Garden do before. That could
be a challenge, but that's where my heart is at the
moment, so that's exciting. It's a pop record. You
know, I could write pop songs in my sleep. I don't
know if they'd always be hits, but I'm a fan of the
genre. I love melody. I love Berry Gordy's Motown
productions, and for me they are the records that I
grew up listening to: Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Michael
Jackson songs, Supremes."
