come, because you won, and you need to get up there." And uh, and so that was it. That旧 what happened. I closed my purse, and I ran up to the stage, and thank God for Hugh Grant, who was doing a little soft-shoe, trying to waste time. James: I渇 like to talk about another lovely movie, Bridget Jones 旧 Diary. Renee: Thank you. James: I understand that there had been a two-year search for Bridget that must have included most of the young British actresses. Were you subjected to a lot of readings and screen tests for the part? Renee: Um, no进o. I got a phone call from John Carrabino, who, uh, who asked me if I had read the book, Bridget Jones旧 Diary. And I said yes, that I had read it. And, uh, he said, 聴ell they虐e talking about maybe they渇 like to meet with you about playing Bridget.? And, uh, whoo, I thought, 団k? Next plane to London. And it just became a process of trying. I started trying with a dialect coach, and started trying, you know, having these meetings about gaining this weight and changing the body. And suddenly there we were, making the film. It was really strange. James: This is what Hugh Grant said when he was in that chair: James: How was her British English, do you think? Hugh: Well, uh, ultimately impeccable. But I mean, not, I mean, not to say it didn急 go through some interesting, uh, stages of metamorphosis. I seem to remember, at the read-through,, the read-through we had, um, Princess Margaret, basically. Um... Renee: That liar! He旧 such a liar! Hugh: Yep. It was extremely posh. Posher than anyone I渇 ever heard in my life. James: What does it sound like? Hugh: A bit like the Queen旧 speech, "my husband and I are delighted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas." A bit like that. Um, but you know, not bad, just a big posh. And then, um, she tried to take the edge off it, and she sounded great, but, um, slightly as if she渇 had a stroke. Slightly drawling, like that. You know, like half her face had collapsed. James: Ultimately she got it though, didn急 she? Hugh: Oh, she bang on, yeah. And you know, she did it off the set, as well as on the set, so it became really weird?James: Did she maintain that? Hugh: Yeah, all the time, all the time. Uh, seamlessly. So, uh yeah, it was freaky by the wrap party when she started to speak Texan to me. I found her, frankly, unconvincing. James: Ok, let旧 hear your version. Renee: He is a liar. He is such a liar. 茘uz that旧 what that table reading was like, "oooo, ooh, mmm? Lovely, just lovely, really. He is a liar. James: Ok. Renee: He was. Did he mention the part where he was scared to death that I was going to destroy his career completely? James: No! He was filled with admiration for you. Renee: Ter-ri-fied! Terrified, I観 telling you. Terrified that he旧 never gonna work again, because I was gonna botch this thing up, and oh my God. Oh my..no, he旧 wonderful, he旧 wonderful, and I, like I said, I owe him for the soft-shoe and so many other things. James: How much weight did you have to gain? Renee: Well, it wasn急 about how much. It was about making it look right. So when, you know, the bras started to fill out, we were noticing that, you know, we were getting there, we did ok. Ultimately, it was about 25-28 pounds. James: Did you work at a publishing house? Renee: Yeah, I did all the clippings. They published the Bridget Jones books, so anything that had to do with Bridget Jones, I had to clip and put it in the file. So I had to read the tabloid stuff about that crappy Texas actress, who was playing the part of Bridget Jones, and I would have to clip it out and put it in the file. James: But did no one recognize you there? Renee: No! James: Amazing. Renee: Isn急 that something? -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 210.59.146.10
