Joining Gene Simmons and his fellow masked musicians are the Red Hot Chili Peppers as this year's most neglected nominees. This was the first nomination for KISS, who actually join New Jersey's favorite sons Bon Jovi (who never made the nominee list this year) on the big ol' rejection list. The one-two punch of Bon Jovi and KISS account for nearly 200 million albums sold worldwide and would make up more sales than four of this years inductees. KISS fans are outraged at not being accepted into the Hall of Fame and Bon Jovi's fans reacted earlier this year when the band was shut out of the nominees list. KISS fans have posted such things as "Rock And Roll Hall Of Shame" and "Rock And Roll Hall Of Fail" on Facebook and two recent stories on the KISS Facebook page received nearly 1,000 posts in only 30 minutes. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced ABBA, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and The Stooges as its 2010 artist inductees. Also being inducted this year as individual recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award will be David Geffen and songwriters Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Elle Greenwich, Jeff Barry, Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell. The ceremony will take place on March 15, 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City and will air live on Fuse, Madison Square Garden’s national music television network, as part of the three-year broadcast deal between the Foundation and Fuse.
