節錄翻譯自 Uncut 11月號 www.uncut.co.uk ---------------------------------------------- * Rock 'N' Roll Star Noel: "Rock "N" Roll Star" is the whole manifesto of the band. I've never wanted to say anything else in a tune. We're going to be rock stars, and even if we don't, even if we're just playing in the fucking Boardwalk the rest of our lives, we're going to ACT like fucking rock stars. When we started it, my ambitions were to have a jet, a monkey, a house with a swimming pool, and a gaff in Ibiza. Did I ever get a monkey? I've got Liam. He's the only monkey I'll ever need. 「"Rock 'N' Roll Star" 等於是我們團的整個座右銘。我從來不曾在歌裡表達過其他的東西。我們就是要當搖滾巨星，即使我們沒成功，即使我們終其一生都只能待在家鄉他媽的小場地表演，我們都會自嗨的扮演好心目中的搖滾巨星。真正開始組團的之後，我的理想是擁要一架噴射機、一隻猴仔、一棟有泳池的大房子，還有伊比薩的一座帆船。我到底有沒有養過猴仔?我有 Liam 呢，他是我這一輩子唯一需要的猴仔。」 (PG的話:看到那幾句"Did I ever get a monkey? I've got Liam..." 真是快讓我笑破肚皮了^^||蓋勒格圈圈裡的幽默啊) * Some Might Say Noel: Some of the lines are quite deep: " Some might say they don't belive in heaven / Go and tell it to the men who live in hell." But then the chorus is just absolute nonesense. I can't believe that was our first fucking No. 1. It's probably still my favourite Oasis song, and I remember recording it for the first timein Wales, and all our crew from Manchester, Wigan, some Scousers, and we just ended up listening to it over and over and over and over again. 「"Some Might Say"裡面有些歌詞含意真的頗深『有人說他們不相信天堂的存在 / 不如把這句話送給那些身陷地獄的人』但是接著的副歌又是完全的胡說八道了。不敢置信這首竟然是我們他媽的第一個排行榜冠軍單曲。它大概仍然是我個人最愛的綠洲創作，我記得第一次在威爾斯錄這首歌的時候，所有的工作人員有從曼城來的、維根來的、一些利物浦來的，而大家最後只是一遍又一遍又一遍又一遍的聽著這首歌。」 (PG的話:最後那兩句看了滿感動的，頭子用了 4 個 over，原來這首歌是團結凝聚北方靈魂的好歌啊;) * Talk Tonight Noel: Liam fucking hates it to this day. 'Cos when it come out that I'd wrote that and "Half the World Away" on that trip, he was going ' Oh he's gone all country and western, its acoustic guitars and he's singing it with an American accent.' which I've never really understand. 「Liam 直到今天都還是很討厭 "Talk Tonight"。起因於當時在出走的旅途中我寫了這首還有另一首"Half the World Away"，那時候 Liam 就說了『喔拜託他又在那邊西部鄉村了，用空心吉他而且還唱著美國口音』，我想我也不會瞭 Liam 到底在不滿什麼。」 (PG的話: Liam 好像真的很反美哦:P 不過我個人很喜歡這兩首歌，尤其是 "Half the World Away"...曲和歌詞都超讚!) * Lyla Noel: I had a really low period , I'd lost all enthusiasm for writing; after Be Here Now, then Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, and parts of Heathen Chemistry, I didn't know where I was going with it, I didn't know what I was trying to fucking do, and "Lyla" re-energised the band. I didn't really know how good it was 'til the first night we played it. It's a great pogo-ing song. 「我曾有過非常低潮的時期，失去所有創作的熱情；就在 Be Here Now 之後，經歷了Standing on the Shoulder of Giants，然後部分的 Heathen Chemistry 我都不知道我到底要拿這一切怎麼辦，也不知道我到底要試著他媽的作出什麼，而 "Lyla" 的出現適時的重新激勵了整個團，直到我們第一次現場表演這首歌我才體會到它到底有多好，它真的是一首可以跟著搖滾，歡欣鼓舞的歌曲。」 (PG的話:看來 96年 Knebworth 那場25萬人空前的演唱會帶給 Noel 的並不是滿足，而是更多的迷失...不曉得達到顛峰之後要往哪裡去...幸好不斷有新的契機和轉折，終於撐到現在..."Lyla"乍聽真的不怎麼樣，可是演唱會的時候它還真有種魔力讓大家一起跳上跳下的哩!) * The Importance of Being Idle Liam: If the critics feel it was a return to form, then that's what they feel. To me, I don't think we ever lost our form. I'm not being arrogant about it, but it's just that we've always written decent tunes, it's just that everybody started nit-picking at Oasis. 「如果樂評媒體覺得 Don't Believe the Truth 是我們東山再起的像樣之作，那是他們的感覺。對我來說，我從不認為我們曾有失手不像樣的時候。並不是我在自吹自擂，Oasis一直以來都做出很不錯的歌，只是大家漸漸開始挑剔、找碴了。」 (PG: 相較於頭子不時回頭批評糟蹋自己 Be Here Now 之後的作品<現場都不唱了T-T> Liam的態度總是讓我又心疼又不忍...不過我相信 Our Kid 會一直保護緊抱著 Oasis 的一切...無論她們是好是壞、是高潮或低潮...只因為那是他的全部他存在的意義;) ------------------------------------------------- To be continued...
