"The work is very moving,very emotional,very upsetting." says Kurt Cobain
biographer Charles Corss,of the paintings that accompany the late Nirvana
frontman's soon-to-published diaries." Itcertaintly ranks,in my opinion, with
some of the best of modern art.
The 800-page journals will be published in November,after a bidding war won by
Riverhead Books who secured the works for 3 million pounds.Corss is one of the
few non-family members to have read them,with Courtney Love permitting him
access for recent biographer Heavier Than Heaven.Cross revealed a mixture of
lyrics, unsent letters and insights into Cobain's sexual history and ambition.
The artwork however, was difficult to render in words.
"He had little pieces of shit pasted in there, blood,semen,hair,bits of teeth
and all sorts of crazy shit."says Corss."It's pretty fascinacting work and
quite advaced--portraiture, landscapes--it's all twisted and emotionally
evocative ,there's no easy way to describe it."
Last year Courtney Love revealed that she'd "spoken to someone in London"
about exhibiting the work.
