Actress Meryl Streep, who finessed the Australian accent as Lindy Chamberlain in 1988 film A Cry in the Dark, attended the premiere awards for AACTA (good acronym for the acting profession!) in a sexy navy blue off-the-shoulder floral number by Cacharel. For her trouble, Streep was awarded the Best Actress award for her role as the British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in her recent film Iron Lady. Formed in August of 2011 with the backing of the Australian Film Institute, AFI, their mission statement is to “identify, award, promote and celebrate Australia's greatest achievements in film and television.” In fact, the AACTA Awards will be replacing the AFI Awards. By the way, Aussie actor Geoffrey Rush is the President of AACTA, which is headquartered in South Melbourne, in the Australian state of Victoria. Also attending the first AACTA awards in West Hollywood, California, were Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Sophie Scarf, Kathy Bates, Mimi Kennedy, Kym Wilson, Claire Holt, Phoebe Tonkin, Sianoa Smit-McPhee, Nat Faxon, Liam McIntyre, Joel Edgerton, Jessica McNamee, Penelope Ann Miller, Ingrid Bloom, Kevin Zegers, Pippa Black, Missi Pyle and Bella Heathcote.
