CORRECTIONS/AMENDMENTS ---------------------- You can tell I was tired writing the last two updates back-to-back. The album "Ray Of Light" received its fourth platinum certificate already, in March 2000. Warner Bros. was wrongfully accused on this one. Could it be due for a fifth, with SoundScan sales of 3.71 million? Somewhat a mystery, Mariah Carey's "Butterfly" claimed 5 platinum when it had only scanned 3.52 million; but for most albums, the discrepancy between the two measures is much smaller. (Record club sales, in-store stocks and SoundScan coverage limitation contribute to the discrepancy.) I stated that "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" did not break into the top 10 until the week before the Grammy ceremony. In fact, the only pre-Grammy week it spent in the top 10 was a month before the ceremony. Speaking of "O Brother," it received top billing on all four charts it was on last week: In addition to the Billboard 200, the album collected its 7th week at #1 on Internet Albums, and its 28th week atop both Country Albums and Soundtrack Albums. When Billboard claimed Kylie Minogue's "Fever" as the highest-charting album ever by an Australian female, they excluded Olivia Newton-John who had two #1 albums. She was born in the U.K. but raised in Australia. Sorry for any confusion. Now back to our regular updates. GHV2 (Platinum) --------------- | TW LW WO PK(#) | -----------------------------|----------------------------| Billboard 200 | 200 182 18 7 | -----------------------------|----------------------------| "GHV2" is lucky enough to squeeze in another week on the album chart. Not counting the four-week run by the 1-CD version of "Evita," the shortest-living Madonna album prior to this was "You Can Dance" which stepped out after 22 weeks. Further up on the longevity scale - and almost evenly spaced - are "I'm Breathless" (25), "Who's That Girl" (28), "Evita" 2-CD (30) and "Something To Remember" (34). "GHV2's" SoundScan total stands at 1.078 million. In comparison, Pink Floyd's "Echoes" and Backstreet Boys' "The Hits - Chapter One" have scanned 1.534 and 1.383 million, respectively. Other notable sellers among last holiday season's Greatest Hits offerings include Martina McBride (834,000), Rod Stewart (470,000) and Green Day (462,000). These albums are career retrospectives, while "GHV2" covers only the second decade of Madonna's career. Martina McBride moves back into the top 100 this week as one of the four new tracks, "Blessed," tops Hot Country Singles & Tracks; Green Day has just dropped off the top 200; and the other three are charting between #100-#150. Outkast's half-hits-half-new package, still charting in the top 40, has sold around 895,000. "GHV2" scans 6,338 copies, a 10.6% drop from last week. The album's sales decline has slowed down through the past four weeks, a hopeful sign that sales may stablize sometime soon. Since "GHV2" will not qualify for catalog status until November 2003, we may not know how the album will be selling unless it re-enters the top 200. Drowned World Tour 2001 (DVD/VHS) (Platinum) -------------------------------------------- | TW LW WO PK(#) | -----------------------------|----------------------------| Top Music Video | ? 27 18 1 | -----------------------------|----------------------------| What It Feels Like For A Girl (D)(M)(T)<> ------------------------------------------ | TW LW WO PK(#) | -----------------------------|----------------------------| Hot Dance/Maxi-Singles Sales | 12* 19 47 1 | -----------------------------|----------------------------| The Immaculate Collection (Diamond) ----------------------------------- | TW LW WO PK | -----------------------------|---------------------------| Top Pop Catalog Albums | 44* RE-ENTER 360 8 | -----------------------------|---------------------------| Dance Recap ----------- This issue features a first-quarter dance charts recap for the chart year 2002, covering 12/01/2001-03/02/2002 issues. "Impressive Instant" and "Megamix" put Madonna at #5 on the Club Play Artist list, though neither track is among the Club Play Tracks top 10. She ranks #2 on the Maxi-Singles Sales Artist list, thanks to three chart entries. "What It Feels Like For A Girl" is #6 on the Maxi-Singles Sales recap. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Maverick Records ---------------- B200 WO H100 WO H100A T40T AT40 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Michelle Branch 46->44* 31 37->24* 6 23* 14* 12* Alanis Morissette 3->4 3 23->26 9 27 17 3* Billboard 200 position and number of weeks on, Hot 100 position and number of weeks on, Hot 100 Airplay, Top 40 Tracks, Adult Top 40. Hot 100 ------- 'NSync's "Girlfriend" (featuring Nelly) jumps #14->#6* and bests the peak positions of "Pop" (#19) and "Gone" (#11). Not because the song is a bigger radio hit, but it has been released on a CD maxi-single and placed at #2 on Singles Sales. Unfortunately, their album "Celebrity" does take a hit, dropping #70->#87. On the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, where the track is still weak in airplay, it jumps to #27* and still has some way to go before matching "Gone's" #14 peak. Ashanti's "Foolish" jumps to #9*. Since she is featured on both #4 Ja Rule's "Always On Time" and #5* Fat Joe's "What's Luv?", Ashanti becomes the first female artist to have three simultaneous top 10 entries. The last act to play out this hat trick was the Bee Gees in 1978 with three #1 hits from "Saturday Night Fever." Whitney Houston came very close in 1993 when three singles from "The Bodyguard" gathered in the top 11. Furthermore, Ashanti did it with her very first three Hot 100 entries. Only the Beatles pulled off the same feat. In 1964, the A-sides of their first three singles clustered the top 10, and held down the top three spots at one time. (The B-sides charted separately back then.) Note that the Beatles, the Bee Gees and Whitney Houston all made their cases with their own singles, instead of songs "featuring" them. The same "featuring" business prevented Ashanti from making the same claim on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. Even though "Always On Time," "What's Luv?" and "Foolish" were in the top 10 together, they were not her first three chart entries because she was featured earlier on a low-peaking Big Pun single. "Foolish" jumps to #1* this week and pushes Tweet's "Oops (Oh My)" and Usher's "U Don't Have To Call" down one spot with a bullet. Tweet's 3-week champion is slightly ahead of "Foolish" by 150,000 in audience impression, but 12" vinyl sales give "Foolish" a slim edge of 24 chart points overall. Sure to delight all fans of a good chart fight, debut albums from Ashanti and Tweet are both arriving on April 2 and will go head-to-head in the 04/20 issue. Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come" zooms to #1 on Adult Contemporary, replacing Enrique Iglesias's "Hero" which has topped the chart for 15 weeks. With 11 #1s, Celine pulls out of a tie with Whitney Houston and becomes the female artist with the most AC chart-toppers. Her total time at #1 - 66 weeks and counting - is a record among all artists. Billboard 200 ------------- "O Brother" scans 149,000, off by a mere 6% from last week. That's more than enough to keep R&B boyband B2K at bay, whose self-titled album scans 109,000 copies. Nonetheless, B2K is the first debut act to crash the top 10 this year. Their single "Uh Huh" topped Hot 100 Singles Sales for ten weeks and has scanned 331,000 copies. Two major movers on this chart are related to the six-month anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Alan Jackson, who performed on the "Today" show and graced the cover of "Entertainment Weekly," sells nearly 96,000 and jumps #6->#3* (winning Greatest Gainer). Daniel Rodriguez a.k.a. "the Singing Cop" re-enters at #112. Sales more than quadrupled after his rendition of "Danny Boy" closed the CBS special "9/11," watched by 39 million viewers. He also visited the Rosie O'Donnell show. His album previously charted for one week at #159 after he performed at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony. Pacesetter award goes to Contemporary Jazz newcomer Norah Jones, whose album jumps #92->#62* after she received coverage in "Time," "Newsweek" and "People" magazines. http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~zhwang/Madonna/chart/BBGHV2_3.html#Mar30 -- Hey MS.Madonna Put a record on I wanna dance with my baby When the music starts I never wanna stop It’s gonna drive me crazy -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.115.228.188
