Like her or hate her, she made an indelible mark on the face of woman and Pop music. 3) Go-Go's - Belinda Carlisle, Jane Weidlin, Kathy Valentine, Charlotte Caffrey, Gina Shock The first all-girl band to write their own music, play their own instruments and achieve number one chart status. 4) Cyndi Lauper With a multiple octave range and a very unique style, she created some of the most memorable sounds (and looks!) of the 80s. 5) Siouxsie & The Banshees - Siouxsie Sioux Fronting a Post-punk band in the late 70s and seeing it through to Pop stardom in the 80s and 90s, Siouxsie Sioux wins my vote as one of the most influential women in musical history. 6) Art of Noise - Anne Dudley Starting out the early 80s as part of Trevor Horn's in-house studio band, Anne Dudley was the center of Art of Noise, having previously arranged and produced material for Frankie Goes to Hollywood, ABC, and Paul McCartney. 7) Throwing Muses - Kristen Hearsh, Tonya Donnely & Leslie Langston The first American group to have an album released on the prestigious 4AD label, Throwing Muses quietly inspired a great deal of women to show off their musical talents.
