Queen of pop, Madonna, arrived yesterday amid tight security measures
to star in her husband Guy Ritchie`s latest movie, production company
Ska Films has confirmed.
The superstar arrived on a private jet at around 6 p.m. and did not
pass through ordinary airport channels.
In Malta for three weeks, Madonna is said to have been accompanied by
her two children and a numerous entourage.
Madonna is starring in the low-budget, romantic drama, Love, Sex, Drugs
and Money, which was being referred to as Swept Away until its writer
and director Ritchie changed it yesterday.
Her co-star is Adriano Giannini, son of the distinguished Italian actor
Giancarlo Giannini, in whose footsteps he is treading: Giancarlo had
played his son`s role in the original 1974 film of which Love, Sex,
Drugs and Money is a remake.
The rest of the cast, unconfirmed until yesterday, includes Bruce
Greenwood, who starred as President John F. Kennedey in 13 Days (2000)
, Jeanne Tripplehorn (Mickey Blue Eyes, 1999, and Sliding Doors, 1998)
and Elizabeth Banks. They have already arrived in Malta.
Produced by Matthew Vaughn, with Adam Bohling and David Reid as
co-producers, Love, Sex, Drugs and Money is set on a Mediterranean
island.
Filming began yesterday and is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.
The movie is being shot against stunning locations in Malta and Sardinia.
Apart from the tanks at the Mediterranean Film Studios, the exact
locations are being kept secret for security reasons.
Critically acclaimed director, Ritchie arrived in Malta on Monday,
while co-producer Vaughn is expected to arrive over the next few days.
Love, Sex, Drugs and Money is a remake of the 1974 Italian movie Travolti
da un insolito destino nell`azzurro mare d`agosto, directed by Lina Wertm棊
ler.
Madonna is playing the role of pampered, rich Amber, who embarks on a
Mediterranean cruise with a group of friends. Bored on her vacation,
she develops an antagonism towards a young, Italian fisherman, Giuseppe
, (Giannini). But, during a boat trip, the pair are castaway on a deserted
island where their volatile relationship turns into passion.
Ritchie is renowned for the commercial and critical successes of the low-budget
, gangster flick Snatch (2000), starring Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro, and
his directorial debut Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), with Vinnie
Jones, and Nick Moran, which saw him shoot to fame.
Love, Sex, Drugs and Money marks the fourth feature from Ska Films, following
its previous innovative, box-office successes and the forthcoming Mean Machine,
starring Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham
The movie, which is to be distributed by Sony, is also written by Ritchie, who
scripted Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Madonna, whose amazing talent and extravagant, innovative style have planted
her firmly in the limelight for almost two decades, has starred in movies such
as Evita and The Next Best Thing, with Rupert Everett. She has just completed
her Drowned World Tour.
She has a one-year-old son, Rocco, with Ritchie, who is 10 years her junior,
and whom she married last December.
