cdnow.com Madonna Asks Bush To 'Show Restraint' In Retaliating, Urges Fans To Think Globally Sep 17, 2001, 11:20 am PT Madonna While nearly every major event was cancelled or postponed following Tuesday (Sept. 11)'s tragic events, the bulk of Madonna's Staples Center shows in Los Angeles went on as planned. The singer, who wore an American flag kilt instead of her usual British flag at the shows, used the opportunity to speak out about the events, urge fans to "think globally," and donate proceeds from the shows to a fund in honor of children and families affected by the attacks (see related story, this page). She also toned down the faux violence in her act during the song "Sky Fits Heaven." Before Tuesday's tragedy, this part of the show saw Madonna raising a gun and shooting her enemy. After Tuesday, she simply dropped the gun instead of pulling the trigger. She also dedicated a one-minute moment of silence to the victims and their families at her Thursday (Sept. 13) night show, and a moment of prayer for peace on Friday (Sept. 14) night. "Any of you who purchased a ticket to the show tonight will be contributing to a fund that will be for children orphaned by this tragedy, so thank you all," said Madonna at Thursday night's sold-out show. "Now on a personal note, I think that each and every one of us should look inside our own hearts and examine our own personal acts of terrorism, hatred, intolerance, negativity, the list goes on and on, we're all responsible. It's not just Bin Laden, it's all of us. We've all contributed to hatred in the world today. "And I would like to have one minute of silence to say a prayer for those who have died; to say a prayer for the friends and families of those who have died; to say a prayer for the rescuers who have worked night and day to rescue people from the rubble. And most of all say a prayer for anyone who thinks that it is right to kill in the name of God. Where there is violence, there is no God. Let's have a moment of silence. Hold hands with those around you. Or stay still and reflect." At Friday's show, Madonna's speech went like this: "It's kind of confusing to have a good time? We're not doing this show because we want people to forget. We're doing the show to remind people how precious life is ?Last night, we had a moment's prayer for everybody who died on Tuesday. Tonight, I'd like to say a prayer for peace. [I hope that] Bush practices restraint?does not retaliate this act of violence with another act of violence. Violence begets violence, and I don't know about you, but I want to live a long and happy life, and I want my kids to live a long and happy life." She also called the tragedy "unthinkable" and that it is a "big fucking wake-up call" and urged fans to "start thinking in a global way." -- 裘弟西洋音樂網 http://mypaper1.ttimes.com.tw/user/JordyChen/index.html http://listen.to/jordy 裘弟卡帶國語台 http://fly.to/popjordy 陳冠蒨網站 http://fly.to/michellechen -- ※ Origin: 交大機械工廠 ◆ From: 61.13.247.31 --
