Jo Whiley meets Madonna, the interview highlights - Part 2... What are you listening to at the moment? To tell you the truth, because I've been away making a movie on location I ended up listening to old music like Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong. I've been listening to old music more lately than current music. And that won't have an influence on the album? You never know You don't do collaborations do you? I was trying to think of duets or people you've sung with in the past. Well I do collaborate with other musicians, definitely. I don't really like doing [duets], it's too gimmicky I don't like you sing one verse I sing another verse. Bono must have phoned you up, Bono's sung with everyone... He certainly has, I turned that one down. I've even turned Frank Sinatra down. But the reason I turned Frank Sinatra down is he wanted to do it in this really detached way, he was going to do his vocals and then he was going to send me the tape, and I was going to do mine - it's too detached. Yeah, that's a pointless task, it's about emotion if you get together on something. So, is there anybody you'd consider singing with? It hasn't crossed my mind. Even Pavorotti has asked me to sing with him. How do you deal with it, do you just say no, or are you polite about it. I like to lead people on. So he's still waiting??? Yeah, because then they keep sending me flowers and stuff to get me to do it. If you never say no you keep getting gifts. It's good. With the film, it's called 'Love, Sex, Drugs and Money'? So far. Guy has been known to change his mind. Is it completed yet? They're editing it right now. Where did you film it? In Malta and Sardinia So a nice way to spend your summer? Ish! Have you been to Malta ? No, I've got relatives there actually I've seen photos. Well, I think you should go there... or maybe you shouldn't! It has its charms, there's a lot of beautiful old buildings, ruins. But the whole island is really geared towards war, they are obsessed with explosions and stuff. Lots of wars have happened there, historically it's an island a lot of people have fought over... It's very Catholic on the island so they are always having the feast of this, and the holy day of that, and as part of the celebrations they have really loud explosions. Also the house we rented was right next to a landing strip, so we went there right after we went to war with Afghanistan so I thought we were under attack because this fighter jet was flying over the house, and at the same time these explosions were going off. And it turns out there was a shooting estate at the other side of the house, it's a very loud place! So, it was an enjoyable experience working on the film? Yeah, it was great working with my husband and the crew were amazing, we were one big wacky family. It was very strenuous and very challenging, it was good. In what way was it challenging? Everything we shot was outside, so we were at the mercy of whatever Mother Nature had to give to us. Everyday we would pray for sun. Also we had to pretend it was hot and sunny when it was starting to get cold and I had to get in the ocean a lot - my goodness it was cold. Tell me what role you're playing. I'm playing a very rich, privileged, unhappy, unhappily married, woman who has an epiphany so to speak when she gets shipwrecked on an island with someone she considers to be her inferior. Who is? He's played by an Italian actor called Adriano Gianini and he's very good. It's actually a remake of a film from 1974, isn't it? Yes, but it's actually quite different than the original at this point. Is this Guy's spin on it? Yeah, absolutely, terribly politically incorrect In what way? Oh, I'm not gonna tell you, you'll have to see the movie. It's really good though, really good. You're really happy with it? Yeah, I mean I'm not editing or the director of it, but from what I've seen and the experience of doing it seems like it's good. Do you get a sense of when something's going really well? Yeah, I've been wrong before but I have a good feeling about this. -- ※ Origin: 交大機械工廠 ◆ From: 61-220-188-189.HINET-IP.hinet.net
