And The Grotesque Burlesque Came To Town!
16 Apr 2003 Military can-can dancers, Dita Von Teese in a giant martini
glass and not an elephant in sight! It can only mean one thing - Marilyn
Manson unveiled his album, 'The Golden Age Of Grotesque', at an intimate
club cabaret show in London last night.
Fans and invited dignitaries queued around the block at London's trendy
strip club, Rouge, last night to listen to the 'The Golden Age...'
and maybe catch a glimpse of the Arch Dandy of Daa Daa of himself.
And the ringmaster did not disappoint.
Young ladies wearing 1930's period hats and sporting 1930's hairdos
(and not much else, with only tassels to maintain their modesty),
and gentlemen glad either in thongs, stockings and suspenders and bowler hats
or Nazi regalia mingled with the celebrity guests which included Gary Numan
TV star Sarah Cawood, XFM's Ian Camfield and The Prodigy's Keith Flint
as the assembled throng viewed a special exhibition of Herr Manson's paintings.
And then, The God Of Fuck himself, dressed in a fetching red suit,
introduced his new album 'The Golden Age Of Grotesque'.
The playback was halted midway by Manson's lady friend, Dita Von Teese,
performing a strip tease in a giant Martini glass. And, once the album
had run it's course, MM took to the stage with a two gimp mask clad pianists
to perform a special, three song cabaret set which included 'The Dope Show',
a cover of The Doors' classic 'Whiskey Song' and 'The Golden Age Of Grotesque'.
