According to the barely literate sleevenotes, "this album is like a charmbracel
et I'm passing down to you". Perhaps it is, if only in the number of producers
(13!) dangling off it. To her credit, Carey is involved; co-producing and often
co-writing. As ever, she has a fine technical voice but the emotional resonance
of a car park.
On the mid-paced fare, she plods along sweatlessly, yet is galvanised when acco
mpanied by a manly rapper, particularly Ice Cube on the sturdy Irresistible (We
stside Connection). The orchestral version of Def Leppard's Bringin' On The Hea
rtbreak is as eyebrow-raising as the idea itself. Shame she can't spell Joe
Elliott.
