朋友寫給我的信我覺得寫得很好在這跟大家分享 Dear Katherine: 我的CD內本也有24頁,可是有歌詞的只有 "Blood on the dance floor" "Stranger in Moscow" "History" , 其它都是Credits and Appreciations..... Anyway, 先聽了有歌詞的 "Blood on the Dance Floor"..Hmm..it's a good song! I like it! 雖然很商業,但仍有MJ歌曲流暢自然的特色,仍是水準之作.我一直很喜歡MJ歌曲中詞與曲之間的律動,不知當年此曲的 feedback 如何? 這首歌, follow the pattern of "Dangerous", A1 & A2 段落為 speaking voice, B段進vocal, 然後是 chorus.其實跟音樂比起來,歌詞所傳達出的訊息更讓我好奇,因為很明顯的,這又是一首 Michael Jackson 典型的 "groupie-phobia"(groupie 恐懼症)的歌曲..... What is "groupie"? "Groupie" 是形容60-70年代的追星族,特指年輕女性.她們會跟著巡迴演出的 Band 跑, 會等在 Hotel, 舞台後門,用盡各種方法向band boys們投懷送抱 . 這些女孩子,視追求明星為追求富裕生活的進階,視這些年輕的band boys為獵物,以 sex 迷惑他們. 是這些在舞台上光鮮亮麗,舞台下寂寞難耐的年輕男孩難以抽身的粉紅陷阱. Remember the story of "Billie Jean"? "She came and stood right by me, Then the smell of sweet perfume This happened much too soon She called me to her room.... Who can stand when she is in demand her scheme and plans "cause we danced on the floor in the round..." "Billie Jean's not my lover, she just a girl who claims I am the one, But the kid is not my son!" 原來1997年的 "Suzie" 就是1982年的 "Billie Jean"! 同樣用 "Dance" 來比喻 "Sex", 同樣生動的敘述這些如蛇蠍般的女子: (Billie Jean) She told my baby we'd danced till three, then she looked at me Then showed a photo my baby cried his eyes were like mine 'Cause we danced on the floor in the round. (Blood on the dance floor) To escape the world I've got to enjoy that simple dance And it seemed that everything was on my side She seemed sincere like it was love and true romance And now she's out to get me And I just can't take it Just can't break it 然而, 在 Michael Jackson 筆下的 "Suzie", 描寫的比15年前的 Billie Jean 更露骨.. "Suzie got your number, and Suzie ain't your friend, Look who took you under with seven inches in. Blood is on the dance floor, blood is on the knife, Suzie got your number, and Suzie says it right." 當然, 在MJ眾多以"groupies" 為主角的作品中, 以 "Dirty Diana" 最為淺白直接了: (Dirty Diana) she's saying that's ok hey, baby, do what you please I have the stuff that you want I am the thing that you need she looked me deep in the eyes she's touching me so to start she says there is no turnng back she trapped me in her heart!" Of course, 以 "betrayed by love" or "frustrated love" 為題材的歌曲可多了,從台灣民謠,流行歌,德國藝術歌曲(German Lied) ,到 Italian opera, 比比皆是; but, there is something peculiar about MJ's lyrics: Michael Jackson 歌詞中所敘述的,不是一般兩性關係之間的 "失戀" 或 " 背叛", 而是 "人為刀俎,我為魚肉", "獵物" vs." 獵殺者" (prey vs. predator)之間的纏鬥. 在這場戰鬥中, groupies 是永遠的贏家,男性 (or MJ himself) 是待宰的羔羊,幾乎沒有還擊的餘地... Remember what's been said in "Who is it" & "Dangerous"? (Who is it) I Gave Her Money I Gave Her Time I Gave Her Everything Inside One Heart Could Find I Gave Her Passion My Very Soul I Gave Her Promises And Secrets So Untold (Dangerous) Deep in the darkness of Passion's insanity I felt taken by lust's Strange inhumanity This girl was persuasive This girl I could not trust The girl was bad The girl was dangerous She's so dangerous The girl is so dangerous Take away my money Throw away my time You can call me honey But you're no damn good for me 記不記得 "Remember the Time" MV中的 setting ?它是在法老-Queen-MJ 之間的 love triangle. 劇中 MJ的角色質問著選擇華麗皇宮生活的 Queen: Do you remember When we fell in love We were young And innocent then Do you remember How it all began It just seemed like heaven So why did it end? Again, MJ的角色為拜金的舊愛所棄. 也難怪, 在"In the Closet"中, 面對幾乎無法抗拒的 Naomi Campbell( MV 中飾演女主角的supermodel, she was the most famous model in the 90s), MJ 還得有所保留,步步為營... (In the Closet) She's Just A Lover Who's doing Me By Is it Worth The Giving? Is it Worth The Try? Michael Jackson眾多歌曲中對女性輕浮且難以信任的刻劃,到底只是商業化歌曲的呈現,或真是他一貫的成見? I am not sure. But I believe that, a composer reveals his inner self in his works to some extent. Michael 不只一次的在 interview 中說, 在十一歲跟 Motown簽約之前 ,Jackson Five 常常凌晨兩三點還在 club 表演,而接在他們後面演出的,就是 strippers (脫衣舞孃). Michael 太小就見識到成人世界的黑暗,認為女性為了金錢,什麼都可以出賣;而Jackson Five 巡迴演出的過程中,也見識到瘋狂追逐他哥哥們的 "groupies",不擇手段的投懷送抱(當時Michael還小,沒人向他 "下手"),這應該也對Michael 還稚嫩的心靈,傷害不小吧! 掙扎於來自母親及教會的高道德教誨(他們從小長大的教派 "Jehovah's Witness" 有相當嚴格的教條),以及充滿謊言,虛假,爾虞我詐的 Hollywood演藝圈,怎能不人格分裂? Michael Jackson 極其一生痛苦的來源,就在於, he lived in an adult world when he was a kid, and he wanted to live in a kid's world when he was an adult. 同情與惋惜是我觀察MJ一生事蹟最主要的情緒,不是因為他是 Michael Jackson,不是因為他是光芒萬丈的大明星,而是 , from the bottom of my heart, I realized that: If we were given the same talent, opportunity, fortune and fame, could we survive better than he did? Could we? I don't know. I have no confidence at all. So, who are we to judge? Who can cast out the first stones?
