[New Paper]This medical drama is dead
This medical drama is dead

HANDS up those who actually know the difference between Healing
Hearts and Healing Hands.
If you do, then good for you.
Because I didn't.
Well, both are medical dramas, and both are Hongkong productions.
Factor in the similar names, and you can't blame me for getting
mixed up.
But, of course, now I know the difference.
Healing Hearts is the one with movie stars like Tony Leung Chiu
Wai, Kenny Bee, Stephen Fung and Kristy Yeung.
While Healing Hands is the one with TV stars like Bowie Lam, Flora
Chan and Lawrence Ng.
But both are equally bad.
I haven't fully recovered from witnessing how bad Healing Hearts
was, and Healing Hands II isn't helping my recuperation either.
The plot is so-so, and no brilliant acting could save it.
Picking up from Healing Hands I, the story again revolves around
the three doctors Henry (Bowie), Annie (Flora) and Paul (Lawrence).
But maybe because there are just too many medical dramas around,
the story-writers can't seem to distinguish themselves with an
engaging plot.
It's still the same old emergencies, accidents and doctor-doctor
relationships.
It's so formulaic that I think I could be a scriptwriter too.
Just create a massive accident like a vehicle pile-up, then plonk
in two doctors to save the world.
Of course, the doctors just happen to pass by, nothing unusual.
Oh, how noble and, oh, how convenient.
And yes, there must always be an abuse case, be it of a spouse,
a child or a pet.
Homegrown singer Kit Chan also appears as a doctor in the serial
but, frankly, I think she should stick to singing.
She looks so uncomfortable in her scenes that you can't help
feeling sorry for her.
Fans would be disappointed in this sequel.
Healing Hands shouldn't have been resuscitated.
