Homegrown singer Kit Chan takes on her first attempt as a TV actress
overseas with TVB after having tried her hands on singing, stage
acting and writing (poems). Eastciti brings you the exclusive details
of her shooting experience in Hong Kong, as well as takes a peek at
what else is boiling in her broth.
[eastciti.com, October 17] My impression of Kit as a cool and composed
cat dissipated almost immediately like dew at the break of dawn when
she broke into uncontrollable fits of girlish giggles and kiddy-like
laughter at the start of my interview. In fact, she laughed so much (and
so hard) that tears welled up in her mascara-laced eyes. What happened
to the poised and collected lady I've thought I knew? Apparently,
she never existed. Little did we know, there's a kid in Kit and she
really loves to just kid around胀o kidding!
To tickle the lass's funny bone, all you have to do is talk about 'her
dog'. And it must not just be an ordinary one at that. Firstly, it must
look grouchy and grumpy and secondly, it must bear a melancholic and
hopelessly disdained look on its heavily wrinkled and prune-like face
in order to set her cackling juices flowing.
Kit has since started her shooting stint in the Pearl of the East a
couple of weeks ago. Initially, she was a little apprehensive about late
nights and held qualms about her command of Cantonese. But these worries
soon became a thing of the past as she found herself fitting in and
adapting well into her hectic but fresh working environment.
Welcome to her hypothetical world of Healing Hands II (TVB's popular
sequel of the oriental version of ER) where cold operating theatres and
professional surgery rule. And who should be more appropriate than a
'serious-looking' Kit who plays the role of a doctor in the production?
When asked about her most memorable experience on the set, she burst
into loud chortles as she recounted about the weary-looking dog shared
between her co-stars Lam Bouyi, Flora Chan and herself in the drama.
Kit said, "Zai-Zai (the dog) is really smelly! In fact, we think the
reason behind his odour is due to his drool because it is collected and
trapped under those massive folds of skin. And boy do the 2 girls (Flora
and Bouyi) really dread hugging it although they were supposed to be
affectionately attached to it in the show. Everyone is very happy when
the dog disappears! Hey, but mind you, the dog's not cheap. While the
extras are paid only $200/day, it costs $3,000 to 'hire' Zai-Zai per day!
"That's not all. I remember once when we went out to sea on an outdoor
shoot, we almost could not recognize Zai-Zai on the boat at the end of
the day because he looked so disheveled and scruffy. In fact, it became
so 'tanned' and worn-out that its tongue almost touched the floor and
its face turned hilariously crinkly and puckered! It was so funny that
we just could not stop laughing!" quipped Kit.
Yes, Kit. Boy, can we tell, just from your hysterical reactions and
vivid descriptions alone.
Fun aside, there were rumors about her bad blood and sour relationship
with colleague, Flora when the press ran a story of how the 2 could not
see eye to eye with each other because Kit had her managing agent
following her on the set while the former had none. To this, Kit expressed
that the rumors were "totally unfounded".
She added, "In fact, we are closer than anyone on the set because I can
converse in English with her and we have common interests and topics of
communication. The crew even labeled us 'guai mui' (loosely translated
as ghost girls, a local slang for Caucasian women)!"
Till we see Kit again in November when her shoot is stipulated to end,
here's wishing her all the best贸n her dealings with the dog, that is!
