Singapore Encourages Residents To Take Ownership Of National Defense Source: Government of Singapore Posted on: 11th January 2011 This year’s Total Defence (TD) campaign will be centred on the theme “Home – Keeping It Together”. A new music video featuring a remake of the classic “Home” will be launched on TD Day on 15 February as part of the campaign. Produced by local songstress Kit Chan, the video features 39 local singers spanning different generations and genres. The theme for Total Defence (TD) 2011 is “Home – Keeping It Together”. Completing the trilogy of themes which encourage Singaporeans to take ownership of our nation’s defence, this year’s TD theme is a fitting sequel to the theme of “What Will You Defend?” in 2009 and “I Will” in 2010, where the natural flow is for Singaporeans to respond by saying “I will defend our home”. This year’s TD campaign is anchored on a music video featuring a remake of the well-loved Singaporean classic, “Home”. It is sung by 39 iconic local singers spanning across different generations and genres, including Ramli Sarip, Jimmy Ye, Maggie Teng, Jeremy Monteiro, Taufik Batisah, JJ Lin, and Stefanie Sun. The music video will be launched on TD Day on 15 February 2011. “Home” resonates with many Singaporeans as it encapsulates our treasured memories and shared dreams for the future. Said Kit Chan, Creative Director of the TD 2011 campaign and Executive Producer of the music video, “This song reaches across so many different demographics, and we hope that this remake will trigger people to reflect on what home means to them and what we can do to keep it strong and secure.” Organisations from the private sector are also actively participating in this year’s TD campaign. These include Sakae Sushi, POSB, KFC, NTUC FairPrice and MediaCorp. Mr Douglas Foo, founder and CEO of Sakae Sushi, gave his reason for participating in the campaign, “This is a meaningful campaign and on behalf of Sakae Sushi, we are honoured to be a part of it. The private sector has a lot to give back to Singapore and we hope that more Singaporeans will step up and contribute to Total Defence in their own way as well. Recognising that they have an important role to play in Economic Defence – one of the five pillars of Total Defence – POSB has been organising initiatives and school outreach programmes aimed at encouraging the young to establish good savings habits. This year, POSB will bring the “POSB Build & Protect our Home” competition to all primary schools where students reflect on what they want to protect at home (Singapore). Singaporeans can also play a part in this year’s TD campaign and express what home means to them by participating in the ‘Make your own “Home” Video ’ contest by submitting their own video featuring the song “Home” from 2 January 2011 to 31 March 2011 on the campaign website www.thisishome.sg. Members of the public can also download, print and customise the “Home” photo frame from the website and use it to display something that means home to them. Starting from 22 January 2011, Singaporeans can view and vote for their favourite “N.E.mation! 5〃 clips, which centre on the theme of “Home – We make or break”. N.E.mation is a competition for youths to express their thoughts on Total Defence through animation. 15 February, the day Singapore fell to the Japanese in 1942 during World War II, is Total Defence Day. It is to remind Singaporeans that everyone has a part to play in defending our country.
