Obie Trice is not a complicated man. After growing up in the harshness of
Detroit's inner city and now living in the warm embrace of his Shady Records
family, Obie has a very simple request when it comes to his women: have some
teeth.
In the video for his song "Got Some Teeth," his debut single on Shady
Records, Obie goes on a fruitless search for a woman with, um, bite. The
video was helmed by Obie's musical mentor, Eminem, and Philip G. Atwell,
the directorial right-hand man to Eminem and Dr. Dre.
In the clip, Obie is a contestant on the game show "Dream Date," a send up
of "Blind Date." On the first of three blind dates, Obie meets a woman at a
club and woos her with drinks. The bartender serving up shots and beers is
none other than Eminem, nearly unrecognizable in his bar-back regalia: dark
hair, an open shirt, hairy chest and a handlebar moustache befitting a porn
star.
This being the fantasy land of rap videos, Obie's date instantly heads back
to the hotel with him. The next morning, though, Obie mournfully discovers
her false fronts lying in a glass of water. No teeth equals bad date. Date
number two is nearly as disappointing when Obie is cornered by a gaggle of
Obie-hating girls outside a club.
On date number three a clearly frustrated Obie Trice drinks so much that he
mistakes some healthy, full-figured women for skinny model types. His
friends toss him in a cab and the cab driver turns out to be a stunning,
dark-haired female cutie who goes back to his hotel with him. The next
morning, when he rolls over, he realizes he's been had again: fake teeth in
the water glass.
"Got Some Teeth" is the first video from Obie's upcoming Shady Records debut,
Cheers, due in September.
