Cate Blanchett will launch her bid for a 2007 Best Actress Oscar at the
Toronto International Film Festival in September, the Toronto Star has
learned.
The Golden Age – in which Blanchett reprises her role as Elizabeth I – will
have its premiere at the Toronto festival prior to its wide theatrical
release in October.
Blanchett, who won an Academy Award in the Supporting Actress category for
The Aviator (2004) and was nominated for last year's Notes on a Scandal,
first played the Virgin Queen in the 1998 movie Elizabeth, which earned seven
Oscar nominations, including one as Best Picture and one for Blanchett.
The sequel, again directed by Shekhar Kapur, picks up the story 15 years
later, focusing on her relationship with Sir Walter Raleigh, played by Clive
Owen, and on her struggles with Mary Stuart and Philip of Spain.Four other
high-profile movies will be among the selections at this year's festival,
which opens on Sept. 6 with Fugitive Pieces (the only picture officially
announced so far by the festival's press office).
