Cate's a super freak December 04, 2006 12:00 Article from: The Daily Telegraph HOLLYWOOD heartthrob George Clooney has described Cate Blanchett as a "freak of nature" because of her extraordinary talent as an actor. The two Oscar winners star together in the new drama, The Good German, set in post-World War II Germany and already touted as a serious contender for the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. Clooney, who has tipped Blanchett to win the Oscar for the role, continued to speak of his adulation for the Australian actress when the co-stars assembled in front of the New York media on the weekend. The big screen master said he had marvelled at the Australian's acting talents in past roles, but was blown away by how she transformed into her latest character. "She's a freak of nature, that girl. Honestly, she can do anything," he said. Blanchett, who studied German at high school for just one year more than 20 years ago, was required to speak the language fluently for her role as a German woman forced into prostitution after the war. But downplaying her language skills, the 37-year-old actress said what she had found most difficult was leaving Sydney and flying to the US on Friday – just a day after the opening night of her directorial debut of a Sydney Theatre Company play, Harold Pinter's A Kind of Alaska. "That was a wrench," Blanchett said of leaving the play. The homegrown thespian will be in the US for a week promoting The Good German, before eagerly returning to Sydney to resume her directing duties.
