SHE might have just signed a lucrative contract with a Japanese skin care
company, but that doesn't make actor Cate Blanchett a fan of the beauty
business.
"I'm always a cynical, sceptical person and I think that women and their
vulnerabilities are played on in the cosmetic industry," Blanchett said.
The award-winning Australian star made the attack on the $530 million-a-year
Australian skincare industry yesterday as she was announced as the face of
the SK-II skincare range, a line of Japanese creams made from an extract
discovered in a sake brewery. She also claimed women were scared into being
overly concerned about ageing by cosmetic companies.
Blanchett said she was only attracted to the skincare range because it didn't
play by these rules. Her endorsement for the creams comes hot on the heels of
Hollywood stars being poached as the faces of big cosmetic firms.
