Bon Jovi Makes Donation to Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship Fund
March 14, 2003
Obviously, Bon Jovi’s fans in the packed house at RODEOHOUSTON made
as big an impression on the band as the band did on the fans.
"We learned of the Rodeo's Scholarship Fund and how they put students
through college... we wanted to be a part of this program. It's the
right thing to do, an excellent cause. We're happy to contribute to
the Rodeo's Scholarship Fund," said front man Jon Bon Jovi.
With this $10,000 donation, Bon Jovi joins an elite group of fewer than
five entertainers who have made a direct contribution to the Show’s
educational programs.
“It’s very special to us when an entertainer, especially one new to
our Show, understands our purpose of benefiting youth and supporting
education. Our fans were obviously thrilled with Bon Jovi’s performance,
and we’re excited that the band members shared that enthusiasm,” said
P. Michael Wells, Show president.
With a paid attendance of 68,232 in the new Reliant Stadium, Bon Jovi
ranks in the top three performances in the history of RODEOHOUSTON.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a 501 (c)(3) charity that last
year awarded more than $7 million in scholarships and other educational
support to the youth of Texas. The Show has contributed more than $92
million to Texas students since the inception of its scholarship program
in 1957.
