BLUR remain on course to finish their new album before Christmas, with a total of 17 songs now mixed. Blur are currently in Devon, putting the final touches to their seventh studio album, due early in 2003. Since heading to the south-west, the band have been joined by producer William Orbit, who bassist Alex James claims has been "doing some decorating on some tracks and a bit of plumbing". Stephen Street, who produced their classic 'Parklife' album, as well as a host of others, has also been in the studio with the group. Writing on the band's official website, James added: "Mixed 17 tracks now. The song now known as 'Elton John's thingy' has been formally scrapped. Song 15 makes the hairs stand up. Get ready. Moving into stillness." A hint of the band's new direction was revealed last week, with the track 'Don't Bomb When You Are The Bomb' hitting the airwaves to a largely32;1 shocked reaction from fans. Radio 1's 'Evening Session' presenter Steve Lamacq was first to air the record on Tuesday last week (November 12), saying he had bought the seven-inch white label single, with nothing but mysterious Arabic writing on it, in a record shop in the West End of London. A spokesperson confirmed to NME.COM that the track is definitely Blur, saying: "They always said that they would put out something on a white label, they aren't doing anything different than they said they would." As far back as March, frontman Damon Albarn had pin-pointed 'Don't Bomb When You Are The Bomb' as a potential single, and he had stated the band's intention to release something as a white label: "We'll put a white label out in the next couple of months and it won't have our name on it, but it'll take a lot of people by surprise. We're hoping people play it not knowing who it is."
