part 1-A ( English)
2.30pm - I arrived at 西門紅樓to do some shopping.
I had absolutely no intention or expectation to hear or even see a sight of
Aska.
However, I brought my camera and went straight to the building that the
concert was taking place thinking just walking past the venue for fun was
enough…but it was the wrong one and was directed by the lady at the desk to
the other building behind it.
After walking around for about 10 minutes in that same area I came across an
empty outdoor space and it looked like something she described. There was a
building and I looked for a sign that a concert was taking place but there
was none.
I was unsure if I was even at the right place so I wondered outside the
building for a few brief moments looking up and down at this somewhat rusty
building.
Suddenly, as I stood inches away from the door, I heard this voice singing 屬
於!!!
I jumped and almost had a heart attack. I recognized the song straight away
because he’d sang it in Singapore and it took me only a second to realize it
was Aska!!
It was so sudden and close by, like he was singing to you.
My heart beat raced a thousand miles. There was no one around, it was a side
door and the area was completely empty. The sound was SOOOO clear and amazing
that I screamed in the first few initial seconds at the reality that I’m
THIS close by and he was right inside!!!
I looked through the tiny slit of the door, peeking inside. I could see
chairs and some people and a guitarist but Aska was not visible.
I thought ‘never mind then’ I’ll just enjoy his amazing voice right here
so I leaned on to the door for a good, actually, best few minutes in peace,
listening.
I was too excited to think. His voice was so powerful, not just in terms of
volume. It was so powerful that it can immediately generate an impulse in me
to burst out and cry.
The sun was shining and his voice was like sunshine.
A women then came up towards me and asked if I could see him. I said no and
she told me that on the other side of the building, there are people there
listening to him too and peeking through the door.
I ran, going past the main door where I saw some people wondering about,
talking about Aska yang and I knew they were doves.
There was also a big poster of Aska where people could take pics.
part 2-A
I then ran to the other side of the building, there were chairs and sure
enough there were doves listening to the rehearsal and looking through the
door.
I peeked through and saw random backstage stuff but I couldn’t figure out
what they were because the slit was really small.
I asked a dove beside me if she was from onlyaska.com and she asked if it was
‘doves nest’ and I said yes. Then her friend came up and we talked about
the forum.
When she heard I didn’t have a ticket she told me that there’s a place on
the far side of the building, inside the building where there is a small
hallway of shops, and at the end of the hallway there’s a place where they
would open the door to let the air through and you could look inside the
glass window and watch the concert there because that‘s what they did in the
past.
She led me to that place and I told them this is my only chance to see him
because I live in Australia.
She was really enthusiastic in helping me to see him but unfortunately, it
didn’t open throughout the night.
But I got excited with them at the thought of seeing him, we went back
outside to the door and listened some more.
Through the slit we saw a quarter of Aska’s body wearing a grey singlet and
everyone got really excited. She kept telling me that when the concert
starts, go to that place inside and you can see some of the stage.
It was almost 3.30, I thanked her and said I would come back later. I went to
walk around, thinking that I could save the recording of the sound by my
camera for later, after all, when it actually starts the sound would be
bigger and better to record. (Big mistake!)
However I didn’t leave the building. By that point my intention was already
set in stone, thinking ’screw the shopping’, Aska is here!!!
I went around the other 3 sides of the building, past the other side door
where I first heard him, looking for places to hear better. I ran to the side
doors back and forth looking through to see if I could get a glimpse of Aska.
Nope. He wasn’t singing either.
I then saw someone go through this mysterious door on one side of the
building, she had luggage and carried a suitcase.
I wondered who it was….I went through a few meters of the small mysterious
path way and peeked through that door.
It was like an exit door and it was not locked. I pulled open the door,
nervous that someone would see me.
part 2-B
No one was there but I heard movements and voices. It looked like they were
still doing some sort of rehearsing.
I heard a few men talking and as I listened more, one of the voices got more
and more familiar, it was Aska!!!
I was unable to hear exactly what they said, I kept on hearing ‘ok’, ‘ok’
by Aska.
I was too excited that I froze right there, not daring to go in. I let the
door close carefully and then ran like wild!!!
I ran to the main door area but there were too many people to get through to
the other side so I ran back and went the other way. I was desperate to tell
someone what happened.
It was almost 4 and I decided to go get some food and come back later as I
knew they would start lining up at 4pm.
At 4.30 I came back to the building and the place was packed!!! Massive
crowds lined up outside the main door that you were not able to get to the
other side through there.
I went to the side doors and peeked through the slit of the door, hoping that
I was as lucky as the first time. A women came up to me and asked if I could
see him.
She was a mother type ( a yi) and we immediately began talking about Aska.
She said she had no idea the tickets were sold out until today, she came with
her husband to see if they sold tickets at the door.
I told her it was sold out more than a week ago within less than 10 hours.
We shared the same feelings of not being able to go in.
I told her about what happened before and that you could listen here.
She said people often say to her why she’s moved by Aska being middle aged
and all but his voice is just too touching that she shed tears when he sings
those songs.
Through the slit we saw a big screen being propped up and thought there might
be a chance that they will show the concert on that screen. *fingers crossed*
We chatted for a bit more and then she left to be with her husband for a bit.
I ran back and forth the doors and around the building. Several people came
up to me on separate occasions and asked what was going on in all which I
replied ‘it’s Aska’s concert!’.
A guy wondered if the tickets were still for sale and was shocked when I said
they were sold out within less than a day and the price was 2200.
He said he’s a guy and gets teary when he listens to Aska.
I went away to walk around for a bit seeing as it would take a while before
everyone was in.
At 5.30 the crowd was still as massive as before.
part 3-A
Every few minutes or so I’d go past the main door area, where it was
crowded, people probably wondered what on earth is this girl doing wondering
about all the time.
I looked like a lost puppy, or actually, probably more like maniac.
I could feel the excitement of everyone, there were even kids lining up. You
could hear people talking about the goodie bag Aska was giving and the poster.
There was a big white van parked on the road and it was some reporter from
TVBS or the like.
The main door then opened and a women came out to talk to the crowd about the
order of getting in and seats. She said if you’re number 6 and a number 9
took your place tell them to get off.
Quite funny.
It would take a while, I thought, so I then went to get a drink. I came back
to the building about half an hour later and met up with the ‘a yi’ again.
She said the inside door was still shut. I went to sit on the chairs near one
of the side door.
It was dark now. Rehearsals had long been over and I grew increasingly
agitated that there was not much movement in getting everyone in, the area
was still crowded and I wondered how the concert would be set for a 6pm start.
I sat for a while and then started running around the building again, back
and forth between the side doors, in my quest to see Aska.
I thought, I was this close before, can’t give up now.
The people were slowly getting in and through the slit of the side door, I
could see the backstage stuff and stairs, doves one by one ran up the stairs
for the concert.
At 6.30 I met up with ‘a yi’ again, the glass door still not opened.
I showed her the mysterious door.
We pulled open the door and stood there for a minute, hesitating.
part 3-B
Then a bunch of guys that worked inside walked past, saw us and gave us a
look, wondering why we’re here.
The ‘a yi’ said we’re his doves with no ticket.
The guys said ’we don’t care, you can’t just open the door like this and
stand here.’ And so we got kicked away.
A man came then and said that we should just sneak in from that door, it’s
not locked and it wasn’t locked all afternoon. If we just sneaked in there
and just go with the crowd they would never know.
I swear I was going to, I had thought of going in to watch his rehearsal in
the afternoon after I saw a lady going in there with luggage.
But ’a yi’ was there and I thought it might be….discourteous, even though
she wanted to do it too. I’d feel too guilty.
The ’a yi’ said she wants to talk to those workers and persuade them to let
us in, at whatever price they want.
We went to the main door, by then the people were already inside and the door
was shut, though not fully.
We pulled open the door and there were 4-5 workers standing there. We talked
and talked, begged and begged.
The A-Yi told them that we came back from Australia only for a short while
to see Aska but the tickets were sold out too fast, say any price now and we’
ll buy it. We’ll sit on the floor or stand or whatever.’
She kept emphasizing that I’m from overseas so one of the guys said to wait
and he told another guy something and he said, ‘no sorry it’s full, we can’
t let you in.’
We kept on persisting but they kept on rejecting.
They then asked a women, she was the manager or whatever and she also
rejected us, saying ‘700 is 700, we can‘t let you in, it’s already too full.
part 3-C
She looked like she was busy at the door, she stepped outside and brought two
women in.
Must be their own people!!! So much for ‘too full’. *rolls eyes* We asked
why they were allowed in.
They replied ‘oh they are reserved people bla bla bla’.
We knew there was no hope for us but we didn’t care and kept on persisting,
even with no luck.
Finally the a yi said, “ok just please tell Aska to do another one of these
concerts. Please!!! If you let him hold another one he will definitely say
yes!! Don’t believe me?! Go talk to him right now! Tell him, see what he
says."
The guy replied ‘depends if he has time to hold another concert, we have to
see how he feels bla bla’. I said ‘of course he wants to, he hasn’t been
on show for months!!!!Just tell him personally, how could he say no. The rest
is up to you guys.’ I thought, do you not know him at all.
The A Yi kept saying ‘before the end of January please’ because she knows I
’m going back to Australia then. She was like ‘she has to go back for school
’. ‘At least tell him this on behalf of us and all the fans that missed
out!!!’.
I wanted to laugh out loud.
I knew it was impossible, there are many other considerations.
She told him that there are so many fans like herself, who are not doves and
are not from the forum but just really loves to listen to him sing.
The guy listened attentively the whole time, nodded and said ‘ok, I will.’
‘Personally’ she said. You have to!!
With that we left and wondered around the building, peeking through the slits
of the door looking for glimpses.
We knew the possibility of Aska holding another concert or event before the
end of January was next to none but it was somewhat satisfying that we argued
with the workers for quite a while, after being here for hours.
Though it was somewhat still a let down even though I knew from the start
that they wouldn‘t let us in. But If I knew I was gonna be this close I could
’ve written or given him something for them to pass onto Aska….*sigh*.
part 4 -A
It was almost seven and a loud cheer erupted from inside. I thought, this
must be it.
However, Aska still hadn’t come out, it must be the doves going crazy.
Past 7pm and more screams erupted from inside.
The doves began chanting ‘YANG ZHONG WEI’ at least 3 times. Aska comes out
and starts singing the song Rehab!!! *Ahhhhhhhhhh*
I was at the inside place of the building where the glass door would
supposedly open but it was not so I ran outside to the side doors in hope of
the sound being clearer.
I ran to the side door where I first heard him rehearse and ’a yi’ was
there. She told me to ‘come come, you can see him here’.
I looked through the slit of the door and….. almost fainted!!!!
Part 4-B
Up until that moment, I didn’t see his face, the most I saw was half a body
from the back in a very far distance through the slit. But here he was on the
big screen!!!
The big screen was facing right at us and we could see it so freakin clear
and awesome through the slit.
I screamed, jumped and reacted like crazy for a second and then focused on
the screen.
He was drop dead handsome and looked HOT HOT HOTTT!
Photos don’t do him justice at all. He was SMOKIN’.
Haven’t seen him like that since April last year and it was breathtaking and
exhilarating seeing him sing on the big screen, even though the sound wasn't
that great.
The place was electrifying.
We could see workers inside sitting there, just near the door, watching the
big screen.
Right in front of them was the audience facing the front with their backs to
us and the workers, the doves waving their ‘lighting sticks’ and going all
out HIGH.
We just couldn‘t see the stage but the audience was right there.
Aska finished the song and began talking but all I could hear was the ever
blaring and passionate screams.
He turned the microphone to the audience and the screams went more nuts. He
acknowledged that there were doves from Hong kong and they all screamed.
It all happened so fast it was barely minutes.
A girl came up to us and we immediately knew she was a dove.
She also didn’t get a ticket so we told her to look through the slit.
She leaned in to look but then thought it was really weird that we’re like
this, like we are stalking or something.
Haha. I guess she’s shy, or probably just not as nuts as we are...haha.
We then ran to the inside to see if the glass door was open but it wasn’t.
We ran back out to the side door to look at the big screen.
So there we were, leaning onto the slit,
with our eyes fully fixed on the big screen,
admiring the thing of beauty,
when a pair of eyes suddenly stared back at us through the slit from inside.
part 4-C
It gave us a shock,
it was a worker and we knew she was unhappy that we could see through the
slit.
She stuck a piece of A4 white paper on the door to cover the slit so we couldn
’t see.
We muttered amongst ourselves ‘omg,
can’t we poor fans outside even peek like this, GEEZ!!!’.
There are only 3 of us.
However, it was not fully covered.
We pulled a chair nearby and I stood up onto the chair to see the big screen
from up high and the 'a yi' leaned down to see the big screen from there.
This annoyed the workers even more.
After barely a minute, the worst happened…. a lady got a large black cloth,
stuck onto the door and covered the entire slit.
We were dumbfounded, astonished and infuriated.
We knew it was partly because they were afraid we’ll prop our cameras their
and film it but we were still mad.
All in all, we barely got a mere 10 minutes of the pleasure of watching the
big screen and the atmosphere.
We wanted to shout or say something back to the workers just for the sake of
it but decided not to.
That was the last we saw of Aska.
part 4-D
The ’a yi’ said ‘lets go, they are so OVER'. They have no empathy.
So we walked to the inside where there was suppose to be a glass window and
listened from there. The sound was quite off though, it was no where near as
loud as the rehearsal in the arvo and we couldn’t hear much.
They had a break inside after a few songs. We sat there and chatted about
Aska, the 1st season and the forum.
The girl that is a member of this dove nest who wouldn’t say what her ID was
(come on out missy :P :P hehe) knew a lot about Aska and the ex-manager and
said 929 is amazing for making this happen.
I realised it was 929 from the nest!!
Disappointed by the lack of sound from the inside, we went back to the side
door where they covered the slit and just listened from there.
After a couple more songs, we decided to call it a night because the aunty
wanted to go home and I was meant to catch the tram with her because I‘m
unfamiliar with the tram.
(silly me) I really wanted to listen to 屬於 at least but guessed there’s
still quite a while and the sound wasn’t clear enough.
We said our goodbyes and left to catch the tram to go home.
It was 8.15pm.
In midst of all this rush, angst, fun and excitement, I didn’t manage to
record anything. I just regret not staying there in the arvo to record the
rehearsal even for a minute…
Despite everything, all the running around (my legs are sore), the rejection,
the sneaking around, it was an awesome day.
And it was warm and sunny for once, the sun lights up for Aska.
I was ecstatic at what DID happen. It was a thrilling experience, an amazing
beginning and a (slightly) disappointing end.
I was so close, yet so far.
I wanna thank:
Aunty (a yi) - for sticking around, for being in company all those hours and
on the way home.
Fellow doves that I met there, sorry I did not get their names, everything
happened so fast but it was great to see people like yourself who support
Aska and everyone going really excited.
929- thank you for making this happen for the fans, for providing Aska a
stage and all the rest. It’s amazing what ‘dove forces’ can do. :D
Aska- for being who you are, the kind, charming, down to earth self.
For bringing joy and happiness to doves all over.
For all your great efforts.
You rock, don't ever change.
Stay cute, always.
At the end, I didn’t get any shopping done at all…haha. But a whole lot
more than expected.
Thanks to everyone who read my story.
I hope i didn't bore you with the details...
