Aaron Kwok!

I often think to myself, “How lucky am I?” – especially when I am knee
deep in racing glitz and glam, trackside. On this particular occasion,
although I was in the presence of the lovely Ghita Mejdi, and being deafened
by the roar of untamed race engines, I spotted a rather ornate yellow racing
helmet. The floral motif caught my attention, as did the name inscribed on
it: Aaron Kwok.
Aaron Kwok – one of the four heavenly kings Aaron Kwok? Aaron Kwok – Asia’
s most prominent pop star Aaron Kwok? Aaron Kwok – the actor, dancer and
racing car fanatic?
Yes. The same Aaron Kwok.
I raced up to him, snapped a few with my trusty old Nikon, and then headed
straight over to Ferrari for some wheeling and dealing. I was granted an
interview and here is what Aaron had to say:
“I had a dream, since the age of 7, to grow up a racer!” Kwok starts. “Of
course my idol since getting into the sport is Michael Schumacher, however,
back then I didn’t know much about racing; just that I wanted to be a racer!
” Kwok is indeed passionate, and delivers his words calmly. The sun is
beating down on us and we are looking over the marina towards the Yas hotel.
“You know, commercial interests will always stop; you let business driven
ideas go, and you find yourself still seeking discipline. What better way
than through a programme like this?” Kwok is a fan of Ferrari’s Corse
Clienti programmes. He has whole-heartedly bought into an FXX, and this comes
after he has collected a few Ferraris. Quite a few. Not perturbed by Hong Kong
’s insanely high tax on any car – let alone supercars – he currently has
(breathe in deep…) a 246 Dino, 360 Modena, an F50, an Enzo, an F-512M, a
lovely Scuderia 16M, a GTO599, a 458 Italia… oh and the FXX!
But it is not only scarlet red Italian steeds that tickle his senses. Kwok
owns a Pagani Zonda F, Lamborghini Diablo SE30, Mercedes-Benz SL600, Mercedes
CLK DTM, Lamborghini Reventon Roadster, Lamborghini Murciélago (and
Gallardo!), a Nissan GTR, a 996 GT3 and a few other Porsche models. “I just
sold my Carrera GT. It only had 400kms on the odometer, but in Hong Kong they
made it very difficult to own a left-hand drive car, so I had to part with it.
” However, track cars clearly tickle his fancy, and Kwok insists nothing can
come close to his FXX.
He maintains that although this passion comes at a price, “You don’t think
about the return on investment, say for instance, as you do with an antique
car. It is so much more emotionally charged. An emotion that is worth so much
more than what is required to be part of the programme. Of course, not
everyone can buy into it, but for those who can, all I can say is, life is
short and you don’t know what will happen tomorrow. I work hard, earn money,
and I live my life in such a way. To certify that ‘this is life’.
Although his humble Toyota Corolla beginnings suggest otherwise, in 1997 Kwok
proved himself at China’s Zhu-Hai International Circuit. He quickly went
from Formula Campus to Formula Renault, and in 2003 he was invited to drive
for Porsche in Malaysia.
We’re sweating profusely now, Kwok is still in his racing suit, but being
the celebrity crooner that he is, I had to crack out my version of the
Mandarin pop classic ‘Xing Bu Liao Qing’. Clearly, a guy like me, who looks
as I do, belting out several lines from a Mandarin pop song (and in key mind
you!) impressed Mr. Kwok. “Ni you hen hao de jei zou” – or something to
that extent, which, in English, translates to “You’ve got great rhythm.”
He then ended our interview with this: “Everything is like Rhythm. If you
step back and think about everything we do, everybody, in every position, has
a unique rhythm. We speak, write and drive with a rhythm. As an actor, I
require a good sense of rhythm. You need to coordinate your parts and
movement, and to this day I think that developing that sense of rhythm has
made me a good driver. (He Laughs) At the very least, it has made me
appreciate what it means to be a good driver! To be fast and have fantastic
rhythm.”

直讓錢驅使著自己往前走，最後發現其實自己一直仍在尋求一種釋放。除了賽車外還有其

是法拉利科西嘉Clienti賽事的粉絲，在他已經收集了很多輛法拉利後，注意了，是很多
輛哦，他曾很拉風地引進了 一輛FXX。香港對任何車輛都高的嚇人的稅收並沒有影響到郭
富城，先不說超級跑車，他現目前擁有（深呼吸下）——DINO246、360 Modena、F50、
Enzo、F-512M、可愛的Scuderia 16M、GTO599、458Italia……和那輛FXX！
但是，這 輛義大利深紅色坐騎並不是the only one，郭富城擁有帕加尼風之子，蘭博基
尼Diablo SE30、賓士SL600、蘭博基尼Reventon跑車、蘭博基尼Murciélago (and

節奏感達到這樣了，我想我會是一個優秀 的司機。（笑了起來）最起碼，這讓我明白了
什麼是一個好司機！快，而且擁有奇妙的節奏。”
